Mix With the Masters: “Younger and Hotter Than Me”

Benny Blanco and Finneas discuss the process behind writing, mixing, and producing Selena Gomez’s “Younger And Hotter Than Me” for the latest in the Mix With the Masters series.

Mix with the Masters, the world’s go-to platform for insight into music production, songwriting and engineering, unveils a new episode of their shortform doc series “Behind the Track” today with benny blanco and FINNEAS. The piece has massively multi-Platinum, Grammy-winning producers and songwriters going behind the scenes of blanco and Selena Gomez’s “Younger And Hotter Than Me” from their much-lauded new collaborative album I Said I Love You First—watch it here.

The piece is the third installment in Mix With The Masters’ “Behind the Track” series investigating the creation of some of the world’s most innovative recordings. The first episodes include Justice and Tame Impala on their Grammy-winning “Neverender” and Lola Young and her songwriting and production team on the global smash “Messy.” “Behind The Track” marks the first time Mix with the Masters has presented a series publicly, beyond their subscriber base.

Mix with the Masters celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Founded in 2010 by Victor Levy-Lasne and Maxime Le Guil, Mix with the Masters is the world’s foremost library of production, songwriting and engineering knowledge, home to over 200 documentaries with everyone from award-winning legends such as Timbaland, Hans Zimmer and Steve Albini to the icons of today including Jack Antonoff, Finneas, Clairo and Ludwig Göransson.

“Though we’ve come a long way since our first seminar in 2010, our mission remains the same,” says Lasne. “To share knowledge, inspiration and help guide tomorrow’s music makers towards greatness.”

MWTM began when former university classmates Victor and Maxime started a series of offline, in-person seminars that soon became sought-after summits of the global music-making class. The founders realized there was a much wider audience for their offerings and in 2016 Victor and Maxime launched a website with a small catalog of in-depth tutorials and documentaries on music production, beginning an archive that could be shared for generations to come.

In addition to the ever-growing library of interviews, MWTM continues to present in-person seminars, masterclasses and summits at iconic studios around the world. In addition, their Parisian home base Rue Boyer, a world class studio built by the founders alongside legendary architect John Storyk (Electric Lady, studios for Timbaland and Pharrell), has become a creative hub for many of the world’s biggest stars, including SZA, Rosalía, Travis Scott, Taylor Swift, Pharrell, Mumford & Sons, 070 Shake, Lola Young and countless others.

With regular releases of full-length studio docs and a number of “Behind the Track” features with global stars in the pipeline, much more from Mix with the Masters is imminent.
