Reader Talas wrote in to let us know that last night in Phoenix, AZ, William Ryan Key announced he’s working on a new EP for release later this year, and he’ll be doing a run of small intimate tour dates. New Found Glory announced that Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” will be on the next version of From the Screen to Your Stereo and they’re aiming for that to come out next year.
When Yellowcard disbanded after their self-titled album, I didn’t think that would be the end of making music for everyone in the band. William Ryan Key proved me right by releasing Thirteen. While I will always miss the combination of his voice with Sean Mackin on violin, this EP helps to fill the void that was left when Yellowcard ended.
Ryan Key, formerly of Yellowcard, has posted up a new store where you can order handwritten lyrics of any song Ryan’s written. Personally, I love these kinds of things. They make great, one of a kind, gifts and are a really smart way for artists to market and sell a part of their music to die-hard fans.
Sidebar: I’ll never understand someone sliding into someone’s mentions, repeatedly, just to be a dick.
I was beyond excited when I found out I was going to get to work with Venom for my first ever attempt at writing a comic. I don’t know if you can count the comics I wrote and drew during class as a kid. Spider-Man was a huge part of my childhood and Venom has always been, without a doubt, one of my all-time favorite villains in the Marvel Universe. I feel like Logan has always had a “dark side” himself and this version of him in his older age where he slips into this apathy we saw in the first [“Old Man Logan”], provided an opportunity to fuse him with the symbiote and awaken that rage we’ve always seen from him. Just the thought of Wolverine in a Venom suit was more than enough to get me on board for this!
My relationship with Yellowcard begins over a decade ago and the musical connection and ensuing friendship now runs deeper and longer than many of my “in real life” relationships. On October 7th, 2014 the band will be releasing their most ambitious album to date, Lift a Sail. I had the chance to sit down and talk with lead singer Ryan Key about everything that went into crafting this album, the stories and inspiration behind the musical direction, and so much more.
