Green Day Play Coachella

Coachella remains militant about not letting recordings of the concert appear online, but Variety has a good rundown of Green Day’s performance over the weekend:

Green Day is nothing, if not always, a political act. And so of course there was something to be expected as a statement during their debut headlining performance at Coachella on Saturday night, when they tweaked the lyrics of “Jesus of Suburbia” to reflect the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.

While performing the song, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong sang, “Runnin’ away from pain, like the kids from Palestine / Tales from another broken home.” The original song lyrics from 2004’s “American Idiot” were, “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized.”

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has purchased a stake in Oakland’s minor league baseball team:

The Green Day icon is joining the ownership group of the Oakland Ballers, the new (and as of this coming season) only professional baseball team in Northern California’s East Bay. Armstrong and legendary Oakland rapper Too $hort are climbing aboard the independent Pioneer League team ahead of the 2025 campaign, giving a celebrity boost to a club that in its first season already attracted plenty of grassroots interest.

Green Day are developing a new roadtrip comedy film called New Years Rev.

Inspired by their early days touring in a sprinter van, New Years Rev stars three best friends (played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust) who mistakenly believe they’re set to open for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert in Los Angeles. The film follows the trio as they pile into a van and hit the road to California, embarking on a journey that promises to be “rowdy, mischievous, and full of adventure.”

FireAid Benefit Concert Announced

Green Day, Billie Eilish, Gracie Abrams, and more have been announced for an upcoming benefit concert.

On January 30th, we’ll be joining the FireAid lineup at the Forum. Proceeds from the show will go towards FireAid to support rebuilding efforts, aid for displaced families, and fire prevention technology for LA’s future.

Tickets go on sale January 22nd at 12pm PT. Can’t make it in person? You can still catch the show from home and donate. It’ll be streaming at select AMC theatres and on Apple Music, the Apple TV app, Max, iHeartRadio, KTLA+, Netflix/Tudom, Paramount+, Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch, SiriusXM, Spotify, SoundCloud, Veeps and YouTube.
