Ryan Key to Write Venom Comic Book

Yellowcard

Ryan Key of Yellowcard will be writing an upcoming issue for the comic book character Venom. He talked with Marvel about the character and his history with the stories:

I was beyond excited when I found out I was going to get to work with Venom for my first ever attempt at writing a comic. I don’t know if you can count the comics I wrote and drew during class as a kid. Spider-Man was a huge part of my childhood and Venom has always been, without a doubt, one of my all-time favorite villains in the Marvel Universe. I feel like Logan has always had a “dark side” himself and this version of him in his older age where he slips into this apathy we saw in the first [“Old Man Logan”], provided an opportunity to fuse him with the symbiote and awaken that rage we’ve always seen from him. Just the thought of Wolverine in a Venom suit was more than enough to get me on board for this!

Doritos Bags That Play Music Are a Thing

Guardians of the Galaxy

Doritos and Marvel have teamed up to release bags of chips that will play the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack:

The custom bags will be available for consumer purchase on April 28 via Amazon.com/Doritos while supplies last. On May 5 — the release date for the second installment in the Guardians franchise — Doritos will also host Rock Out Loud pop-up recording booths in New York and Los Angeles. Fans will get the chance to sing one of the Marvel/Hollywood Records soundtrack’s classic tunes. In addition, they’ll have the opportunity to win various prizes, including the custom cassette player replica Doritos bags, concert and other event tickets and free bags of Doritos.

The cheese dust makes the music sound “warmer.”

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Soundtrack Revealed

Marvel

The soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been announced and director James Gunn sat down with Rolling Stone to dive into it:

“I’ve always said that if the Guardians had a house band, it would be ELO,” says Gunn, “and ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ is one of my favorite songs by them. We had a hard time getting the rights. We had to really fight to get the song, and I personally appealed to Jeff Lynne.” Lynne had previously approved a song for the first Guardians that Gunn ended up cutting, which made the process harder this time. But in the end, Gunn says, “I think we made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.”

‘Captain Marvel’ Gets Two Directors

Marvel

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will be directing the upcoming Captain Marvel movie:

Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman and Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve wrote the script for the Marvel Studios film, which will be produced by Kevin Feige.

They landed the job after an extensive search. Last summer, Marvel had whittled down its list of contenders to include Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter and Lorene Scafaria for the highly coveted job, which will mark Marvel’s first female-centric tentpole. The studio was making the hiring of a woman a priority for the project.

Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ Is Ok, but Never Great

Iron Fist

After watching the first six episodes a lot of critics were out on Netflix’s new series Iron Fist. The reviews haven’t been kind. While it’s hard to judge a whole show on just shy of half of its episodes, it’s important for a show to grab the audience from the start. Iron Fist doesn’t quite do that. While I made it through the whole thing, the start of the show was slow. The latter half is definitely better, but many people could find themselves giving up on the show before that happens.
