Seven More Women Accuse Mark Kozelek of Sexual Misconduct

Sun Kil Moon

Pitchfork:

In the seven months since Pitchfork published an article detailing claims of sexual misconduct against Mark Kozelek, seven more women have come forward with similar allegations about the Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters singer-songwriter. These new allegations include nonconsensual nudity and masturbation, unwanted touching, and one claim of nonconsensual intercourse. They span two decades, from Kozelek’s beginnings as a professional musician in the early 1990s with Red House Painters to the peak of Sun Kil Moon’s popularity in the 2010s.

 Amy Zimmerman, writing at Pitchfork:

According to Andrea, who requested to be identified by a pseudonym in this story, Kozelek’s antagonism of women during the period immediately following Benji was not limited to members of the press. She claims that he exposed himself to her without consent in a hotel room in Raleigh, North Carolina, in September 2014, when she was 19 years old. According to Andrea, he also allegedly initiated sex that she wrote “wasn’t really consensual” in a series of Facebook messages to a friend the next day, which Pitchfork reviewed.

Review: Sun Kil Moon – Common as Light and Love are Red Valleys of Blood

Mark Kozelek doesn’t like what I do. This was made abundantly clear somewhere between Universal Themes’ “Cry Me a River Williamsburg Sleeve Tattoo Blues” and Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood’s “Philadelphia Cop,” in which the song breaks for a strange skit between a “music journalist” and an outdated impression of a teenage girl (both voiced by Kozelek). It’s true; things have gotten pretty weird between Kozelek and in followers since the release of his recent opus, 2014’s Benji. He’s publicly lashed out against music journalists, other artists, and an entire North Carolina audience. Truth be told, he couldn’t give a shit whether or not I “recommend” his new album or not. So why do I continue to be so drawn to it?

Sun Kil Moon Streams New Album, Gets Interviewed by Conor Oberst

Sun Kil Moon

Sun Kil Moon’s new album Common as Light and Love are Red Valleys of Blood is up for stream and Mark Kozelek sat down with Conor Oberst to talk about the album:

I’m pretty rooted in San Francisco after living here for 30 years and I wouldn’t give up my view or what I’ve accomplished here for anything. But now and then I can get annoyed with my West Coast friends who don’t seem to understand the realities that exist between coasts. I’m turned off by elitist attitudes and there’s a lot of that in San Francisco. People are down to earth in Ohio and I’m proud of where I’m from. Though I’ve been to Italy many times, the best Italian restaurant in the world, to me, is Sylvester’s in North Canton, and I like Luigi’s in Akron a lot, too.
