The Future of the Internet Is Likely Smaller Communities

The Verge

The Verge:

Smaller, purpose-driven communities are the future. The desire for smaller, more intimate communities is undeniable. People are abandoning massive platforms in favor of tight-knit groups where trust and shared values flourish and content is at the core. The future of community building is in going back to the basics. Brands and platforms that can foster these personal, human-scale interactions are going to be the winners.

Seems like a good idea; someone should try it. Maybe we could call these things … forums?

I’ve wanted to pick up one of these signed handwritten lyric sheets from Ryan of Yellowcard for a while. When the latest shop opened up, I finally went for it. I picked a song that’s meant a whole lot to me over the years, “Back Home.” It’s a song that started as an anthem for a young me off in college and thinking about what I’d left behind. It’s now a song that makes me think about all I have right now, and how far I’ve come from being that silly kid running off to California.

I’m super happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to frame it for the office wall.

Review: Silverstein – Antibloom

Silverstein - Antibloom

2025 is a major year for Silverstein for a litany of reasons. The band is celebrating 25 years of existence, they are currently on a comprehensive tour in support of this band anniversary, and they are planning to release not one, but two LPs this year. First on the docket is the brief, but extremely hard-hitting album called Antibloom. Silverstein recorded both parts of their ambitious two-part album in the deserts of Joshua Tree, CA, and it appeared to have a big impact on the five musicians. Shane Told shared, “Antibloom is a reference to the desert, the empty vastness, the harshness, something we experienced while making the record. This is not a concept record, the concept was making a record in this space, and while the lyrics/songs are not directly connected in any shape or form, the concept of death or mortality does appear a lot”. While some fans may be turned off by the short run time of Antibloom, it’s hard to not admit that this record features eight great songs that play off of each other brilliantly and accelerate the artistic development of Silverstein.
