Rare David Bowie Demo Discovered
A rare David Bowie demo has been discovered and will go up for auction:
Hadfield recalls ‘Our agent, Eric Easton, who also managed The Rolling Stones, asked us to do a demo so he could try and get us an auction at Decca. So in early 1963 I booked into R.G.Jones small studio in Morden. In preparation for the demo David and our guitarist Neville Wills wrote 2/3 songs. We had decided that we would do a couple of guitar instrumentals and one original song. I chose “I Never Dreamed” as it was the strongest, the other two were a bit weak! I also decided that David was the best person to sing it and give the right interpretation. So this became the very first recording of David Jones (Bowie) singing 55 years ago! There is no other recording featuring David as lead in existence.

The Candescents have shared their new song, “Chinese New Year.”
The Offspring and 311 Cover Each Other’s Songs
The Offspring have shared a cover of 311’s “Down” and 311 have covered “Self-Esteem.” You can hear the new renditions on Spotify or Apple Music. 311’s Nick Hexum talked to Billboard about how the idea came together:
It was the Offspring’s idea, and a great idea. They said, ‘We had the idea to cover your song, and we’ve done it,’ and I was like, ‘Wow! I have to hear this,’ ’cause it’s such a signature song. Were they going to cover it faithfully or rework it?’ They reworked it just enough; There’s punk to it, and Dexter (Holland) actually does a killer job of rapping SA (Martinez)’s parts in more of a punk rock style, with fast drums. We were so blown away, It was so my fun to hear that. So we returned the favor and reggaefied (‘Self Esteem’), which is probably my favorite song of theirs. It’ll be a lot of fun to give the fans new versions of these songs they love so much.

This song is awesome and feels potent, unique, and, like almost all The 1975 songs, captures a mood and vibe in the music. I’m so happy to be alive while this band is in their prime. This album is shaping up to be special.
Joyce Manor Announce New Album; Stream New Song
Joyce Manor will release their new album, Million Dollars to Kill Me, on September 21st. Today they’ve released the title track and pre-orders are now up. The album was produced by Kurt Ballou.
Foxing – “Nearer My God”
Foxing have released their new song “Nearer My God” in five different languages. You can stream all of the versions, and read more about the project, via NPR:
“The language idea started as a ‘wouldn’t it be cool’ thing that just kept going,” Murphy says in a press release. “The whole point was to put in a fraction of the effort that most international artists put in. The goal was to show respect and appreciation. Each step was pretty difficult because we wanted to get it as right as possible and my only knowledge outside of English is some high school French. Each of the four foreign languages had its own set of difficulties, but, after working with 70-ish translators and friends for a few months, we’ve got one song in five tongues.”
