Post Malone Top the Charts Again

Post Malone still has the number one album in the country:

For the third week in a row, Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys sits atop the Billboard 200 chart dated May 26, as the album earned 147,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 17 (down 24 percent), according to Nielsen Music.

Arctic Monkeys debuted at number eight:

Arctic Monkeys arrive with their third top 10 album, as Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino debuts at No. 8 with 47,000 units (37,000 in traditional album sales).

How the Music Industry Messed Up Legal Streaming the First Time Around

In the roughly 24 months between the time Napster shut down its popular free service and Steve Jobs announced the iTunes Music Store to the public, the music industry tried to create legal replacements, but the lack of precedent was a problem. Nobody could figure out exactly what a legal digital music industry was supposed to look like, or how it was supposed to work.

Paramore to Register Voters at US Shows

Paramore have teamed up with HeadCount to register people to vote at their tour dates this summer. Hayley confirmed the news:

We’re partnering with HeadCount to give people a chance to register to vote before midterm elections. They’ll be at the shows all summer and we’d like to encourage young people coming out to take this chance to make their presence known and their convictions noted.

Live albums are typically used by a record label to either fill in the time between album releases by an artist, or to take advantage of when a band is at its peak popularity. With no shortage of catalog material, Cold War Kids have released their first live album entitled Audience. The band has released six studio albums to date, with very little lag coming in between each of the releases. Recorded on September 24, 2017 in Athens, GA, Audience capitalizes on the band’s live strengths, which is to keep the music flowing from song to song, all the while engaging the crowd in belting out each memorable hook.

Hidden Hospitals have cemented themselves as one of my favorite current rock bands. As I was listening through Liars, I was taken back to what got me into the band in the first place. Their 2015 album, Surface Tension, was a breath of fresh air. They didn’t sound like anything on the radio. They aren’t afraid to try new things when it comes to their music and with Liars they encapsulate rock ‘n roll in their own way.
