Spotify Closes Russian Office

Variety:

Spotify has taken several steps in response to Russia’s military attack on Ukraine, including closing its offices in Russia “indefinitely.”

The company is not disabling access to its service within Russia. “We think it’s critically important to try to keep our service operational in Russia to allow for the global flow of information,” a Spotify representative said in a statement provided to Variety.

Like other internet platforms, Spotify has restricted the discoverability of Russian state-affiliated content on the streaming audio service. In addition, the company has removed all content from Kremlin-backed outlets RT and Sputnik from Spotify’s platform.

Bandcamp is Joining Epic Games

Bandcamp

Bandcamp is joining Epic Games:

I’m excited to announce that Bandcamp is joining Epic Games, who you may know as the makers of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, and champions for a fair and open Internet.

Bandcamp will keep operating as a standalone marketplace and music community, and I will continue to lead our team. The products and services you depend on aren’t going anywhere, we’ll continue to build Bandcamp around our artists-first revenue model (where artists net an average of 82% of every sale), you’ll still have the same control over how you offer your music, Bandcamp Fridays will continue as planned, and the Daily will keep highlighting the diverse, amazing music on the site. However, behind the scenes we’re working with Epic to expand internationally and push development forward across Bandcamp, from basics like our album pages, mobile apps, merch tools, payment system, and search and discovery features, to newer initiatives like our vinyl pressing and live streaming services

[…]

Saddest Factory Radio will premiere on March 3 at 6 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET on SiriusXMU (Channel 35, with encores continuing throughout the weekend. Each episode will arrive the first Thursday of each month.

There are bands that everyone knew about in the early 2000s and then there are the little classics that those that were reading AbsolutePunk knew about. This has always felt like one of those. One of the hidden gems that if you know, you know. And it’s an album that continues to feel far ahead of its time and holds up quite well. (And one where a plucky! little band from Las Vegas would find inspiration for their band name not long after.)

“Hold your breath, you know how long…”
