Green Day Developing New Film

Green Day

Green Day are developing a new roadtrip comedy film called New Years Rev.

Inspired by their early days touring in a sprinter van, New Years Rev stars three best friends (played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust) who mistakenly believe they’re set to open for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert in Los Angeles. The film follows the trio as they pile into a van and hit the road to California, embarking on a journey that promises to be “rowdy, mischievous, and full of adventure.”

Yeah, that’s a pretty nice mail day. ‘Dyed’ is definitely one of my favorites of the year so far (and I had to grab that covers album).

I wrote a script a while back to calculate the number of words (and articles) I've written on this website. I use it at the end of the year to put the stats in my EOTY post. On February 1st, 2025 I decided to run it on my entire posting history. The results:

25,212 articles published
2,551,146 words written

That includes articles going all the way back to April 2002. You know, I do think it's a little poetic the first posts are about Midtown. (As cringe-inducing as re-reading them is.) Pretty sobering to think about writing over two million words though.

Review: The Academy Is… – Almost Here

The Academy Is… - Almost Here

The record that started it all for The Academy Is, and made an instant star out of vocalist William Beckett, has turned 20 years old. In the flurry of bands signed to the label Fueled By Ramen, The Academy Is seemed to be one of the more immediate success stories. The band had formed in 2003, put out their self-titled EP in 2004 and would craft enough material to release their formal full-length debut, Almost Here, in early 2005. The set was produced by James Paul Wisner and he does a nice job of accentuating the band’s strengths. The Academy Is would be staples on the Warped Tour and would later release two subsequent full-length records before going on hiatus in October 2011. Almost Here spawned three singles in “Checkmarks,” “Slow Down,” and “The Phrase That Pays” and by October 2009 the set had sold over 250,000 units.

Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom Stores Close

Money

AP:

Outdoor apparel seller Liberated Brands, which has operated stores for surfer and skater-inspired labels like Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom, filed for bankruptcy this week — and plans to shutter its locations across the U.S.

Liberated filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware court on Sunday. In court documents, the California-based company said it would be winding down and liquidating its North American business after struggling with a series of macroeconomic shocks, supply chain troubles and falling profits due to “fast fashion” rivals.

And a generation of mall cruising pop-punk kids with bleached tips are hit right in the feels.
