Jeremy McKinnon of A Day to Remember

A Day to Remember

Let’s start off by stating your name and what you play in A Day to Remember.

Jeremy McKinnon. I sing for A Day to Remember.

How is Warped Tour going so far?

Incredible. We seriously couldn’t be happier with how the tour is run, and how it’s going.

Any funny or embarrassing moments?

When we played one of the Texas Warped dates, some of the kids threw a blow up doll on stage that had writing all over it. There was a heart around its … back door that said “For Tom.”

When are you guys going to be recording your next album?

Directly after we’re finished touring with NFG. So Oct/Nov. The record is going to be called Homesick.

What will the new material sound like?

Way more pop, and way heavy AT THE SAME TIME!

Influences on the new songs?

If you mixed Celine Deon with “On Broken Wings.”

When do you plan to have it out by?

Were aiming for February. Fingers crossed!

How did the offer for the “Easy Core Tour” come about? Were you hand picked by New Found Glory?

We were in contact with Chad about producing our new record, and during one of the conversations he asked us to go on the tour. The rest is shall I say … history. Mwahahaha! Suckers.

That tour has a pretty solid lineup, what are some of your favorite tours that you have gone to in the past?

My favorite so far has been the Silverstein and Prada tour. Mainly because were good friends with both of those bands. It made the time fly. Plus the tour was amazing.

What is something you must have with you on tour?

My acoustic guitar. I’m always writing music so if I didn’t have it with me, I’d probably go insane.

What is the funniest story that’s happened on tour?

In the last week or so, our merch guy Dave got drunk and had his way with that blow up doll I already told you about. Bad times.

Any good tour pranks?

We played Pittsburgh on the Silverstein tour, and as a tour prank during Pradas set Tom and Josh got in their underwear and dance on the top of their guitar cabinets. There is actually a video of this on YouTube. You should all check it out. Probably one of the funniest I’ve ever seen.

Have you guys thought of any more humorous and entertaining stage antics, such as running in place in “Fast Forward..?”

Yes.

When did you find out or how did you find out how to scream?

I went on a youth group trip and we climbed a mountain. On top of this mountain there was an old man. I said, “hey old man what’s new?” he says take this Zen of screaming DVD and become the best screamer known to mankind.

ps: “yo Melissa let me get some free lessons.”

How did you guys like growing up in the “Florida scene?”

Loved it. It was crazy growing up, and seeing bands like underoath and evergreen terrace play on gym floors to 30 kids.

What made you guys want to record the Kelly Clarkson cover?

It was just for fun. We wanted to take a really funny pop song and put our touch to it. I guess the joke went over well.

Why did you decide to release it as a single?

Kids really liked it. It was never meant to be anything more than something to keep people happy till we could throw up some new demos or something. It was going over so well, and we put it on the re-release so why the fuck not?

What are some other songs you guys would consider covering?

We wanted to cover Millencolin’s “No Cigar” and Alkaline Trio’s “Private Eye” for the re-release also, but we just didn’t have the time due to us touring so much. Oh well.

How do you feel about the whole “pop-mosh” thing becoming a very popular style now?

It weird. See it’s funny because we have been doing this for so long. When we started, this shit was not cool. EVERYONE told us mixing the two genres wouldn’t work. Hell, a lot of people still feel that way. We’ve just always played what we wanted to hear, and to be honest people weren’t doing it back then. We loved pop punk, we loved hardcore bands, and we couldn’t decide what to be. So we said fuck it. Let’s do them both.

Any bands you discovered on Warped Tour that you never heard of/listened to before?

Farewell is sick, 3oh3 ruins lives, and august burns red are so good it makes me want to stop being a professional musician.

Anything else you want to add?

Neil wants the world to know he is selling his Sidekick LX for 200 bucks. Hit him up. We love you all.
