Rozzi
Berry

Sometimes you just know when an artist has that “it” factor to them that will open multiple doors to the possibilities of their career. Rozzi definitely falls into this category with her Berry EP, a thrilling collection of songs that uniquely showcases her impressive vocal range and songwriting prowess. Led by the super-charged single featuring Nile Rodgers, “Consequences” is one of those songs that grabs your attention from the first few notes and never lets up. With a great-sounding EP, it’s only a matter of time before others become aware of this artist’s brilliance.

Berry EP opens with the brooding and moody “I Guess I’m The Bad Guy Now,” that finds this artist experimenting with the atmospheric elements of her sound to convey raw emotion. The song doesn’t feature much instrumentation, as it doesn’t want to distract away from Rozzi’s pure vocal tone. “Consequences” follows with a great funk beat and some nice guitar riffs to allow for her to slowly build to the crescendo towards the end of the song that finds Rozzi firing on all cylinders.

Other songs like “fflow” and the title track expand upon the soulful approach to this artist’s vocals, and she brings a backing chorus into the former song’s fold to help add texture to the track. Closing out the EP with the great production elements found on “Rock Bottom” reminded me of some of the more heartfelt songs in P!nk’s catalog, while “Clouds” rocks with a jazz-infused disco beat with some stellar backing vocals to bring the song to the heavens.

Overall, there’s a lot to like and be excited about with Rozzi’s artistic direction found on Berry. When she connects deeply within the groove of the song, she’s at her best, and I’d like to see her continue to tinker with tempos and vocal cadences to further unlock her full potential as an artist.
