Albums

I’ve always been the kind of music fan that likes to listen to albums. I’ve never been one for picking out random songs, or putting things on repeat, or building giant playlists of things in shuffle order. I like putting on an album, sitting back, and listening front to back. That’s why I was really drawn to the iOS app, nicely named, Albums.

Albums is an album-focused music player for iOS. It is the perfect companion for music nerds who use Apple Music (or have a local library) and really love to listen to albums as a whole. They just launched version 2.0 and it’s available as free download.

The app is built for those that want to listen, specifically, to albums as a whole and be able to find them and consume them in an easy manner. In addition to offering features like album shuffle, the app also hooks into MusicBrainz and Discogs to pull in production credits, release dates, and record label. It also makes the most of the latest iOS features, like Siri Shortcuts, Dark Mode, and context menus. And, the latest update has an in-app purchase to use built in Last.fm scrobbling.

Check it out now on the App Store.

Out of Service

My thanks to Out of Service for sponsoring the website this week. If you’re a longtime member of our forums, you’ll recognize the username Teebs41, and he’s a part of this band and where I first heard about them.

The band just released their new album, Burden, to all streaming services. The record is a three-act concept record about suffering from depression (Threshold, Sleep, Ash), deciding to get help (Stories, Chemicals, Burden), and learning to live with your mental illness (Trauma, Uneasy, Tomorrow).

Burden was mixed by Nathan Hussey (All Get Out) and mastered at Vu Du Studios by Frank Mitaritonna. It is a synthesis of the band’s raw emotional energy and indie sensibilities. The first single, “Stories,” features Madeline Finn (Envoi) who blends her soaring vocals to amplify the emotive energy of the song.

Out of Service

Out of Service have released their new album, Burden, to all streaming services. The record is a three-act concept record about suffering from depression (Threshold, Sleep, Ash), deciding to get help (Stories, Chemicals, Burden), and learning to live with your mental illness (Trauma, Uneasy, Tomorrow).

Out of Service is an indie rock outfit from the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. After a decade-long hiatus, Out of Service reformed in 2016 with its original lineup of Mike Capuano (vocals), Bryan Williams (guitar), Ken Bond (drums), and Brian McGovern (bass). Settling into the chemistry they had from years of writing and performing together, the band released its first full-length album, Morning, in 2018. Soon after the release, Radio 104.5 Philadelphia selected Out of Service as a top 4 Philly-area band based on the strength of Morning and their regional fan base. At live shows, Out of Service has built a loyal following as the result of their dynamic brand of intensity and musicianship. The band has been booked at some of the most storied Mid-Atlantic venues with acts like Mat Kerekes (Citizen), All Get Out, Shortly, and Valencia.

Building upon this success, the band completed their forthcoming sophomore effort, Burden.

Hot Sauce

My thanks to Dark Matter Hot Sauce for sponsoring the website this week. I like hot sauces. I like trying different ones and have found that I enjoy hot sauce with a discernible flavor over just heat. I’ve personally tried the Dark Matter sauces in the past and really enjoyed them. It was a little chipotle smoky flavor, with not too much heat. They would definitely get my recommendation. For a limited time, Dark Matter Hot Sauce are selling their annual “Konstantine Hot Sauce.”

Dark Matter describes this year’s hot sauce as their most friendly hot sauce yet, and a great addition to your “everyday” sauces. Konstantine 2019 has a rich garlic flavor, traditional cayenne heat, and subtle sweet and smoky notes. It’s therefore excellent for everyday uses to enrich your dishes.

Bottles will start shipping on December 9th, with the last day to order on December 19th.

A portion of each sale is donated to The Dear Jack Foundation, founded by Andrew McMahon.

My thanks to SupMikeCheck for sponsoring the website for the past week. After booking the ad, Mike sent me a very heartfelt email talking about how much he’s put into his music and passion and it really connected with me. Sometimes we forget that there’s a human side to the music, someone behind a computer, late at night after a long shift, putting all of themselves into their art.

SupMikeCheck just released his new album You Never Really Cared to all streaming services. The album has collaborations and features with AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer, Mat Devine of Kill Hannah, Andy Thornton of Flight 409, and Lil Lotus. It also features a track produced by Jay Vee who has worked with Nothing, Nowhere., Shinigami, Guccihighwaters, and more.

You can check out the album on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
