One Last Supporter Pitch in August

Today’s the last day of August, and since I’ve made it a goal of mine to pitch the supporter upgrades this month as I get ready to figure out what the next year of Chorus and my work schedule needs to look like, I’d like to do it one last time:

I’ve run some of the math, and basically, if everyone reading this signed up for just one year, this website would be sustainable basically immediately for multiple years. If only a small fraction of the people reading this right now signed up, this website is viable for me to keep running as my full-time job for another year. And, that’s the ultimate goal.

Thanks to everyone that has signed up. Your support made it so I could spend more time writing this past month, and it’s felt really good to do that again.

Review: Spirit Animal – Born Yesterday

Spirit Animal

I first heard of the new band, Spirit Animal, when I looked at the concert listings at my local venues and saw their name as the main support act for established artists such as Incubus and The Struts. Naturally, I was curious to check out the band if for nothing else to see what the hype was all about. On their debut album, Born Yesterday, Spirit Animal are clearly here for good times and party vibes, while still maintaining enough composure to reflect on history as well.

Having recently signed a record deal with Atlantic Records, Spirit Animal tend to embrace the high hopes put forth by their label and delivers a product worthy of our attention. In a lot of ways, I can find similarities to Spirit Animal with the early work of their tour-mates, Incubus, with the type of “funk rock” that they portray throughout their debut. However, Spirit Animal stretch out more to create a unique enough product to stand on their own as well.

Justin Vernon on Eminem Collaboration: “Not a Fan of the Message”

Bon Iver

Justin Vernon has taken to Twitter to address the Eminem song he appears on and its use of a homophobic slur.

Was not in the studio for the Eminem track… came from a session with BJ Burton and Mike Will. Not a fan of the message, it’s tired. Asked them to change the track, wouldn’t do it.

I dunno, if it was me, I’d make sure I knew what my name and voice would appear on before I approved it, and if they wouldn’t change it, I’d tell ‘um to take me off the shitty song.

Update: Justin has announced on Twitter he’s “killing the track.” Good for him.
