311 Announce 30th Anniversary Vinyl Pressing of Self-Titled Record

311

311 continue to celebrate their devoted fanbase and groundbreaking career with an unforgettable 311 Day experience. The legendary rock band rang in their annual 311 Day, yesterday, with a series of major announcements. 311 commemorated their legacy with the announcement of a 30th anniversary reissue of their iconic self-titled Blue Album that will be released on July 11th. In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the “Blue Album” reissue will feature a 2-LP set with seven bonus tracks and will be available in two color variants – a direct to fan exclusive “Citrine Shade” and retail release “Blue Smoke” color via Legacy Recordings. The strictly limited package is the latest in the band’s series of 30th Anniversary “Pearlized” special editions, and also includes an embossed gatefold sleeve with exclusive art. The reissue is 21 tracks on 2 LPs and brings together every song that was recorded by the band during the “Blue Album” sessions, and marks the first time the bonus songs have ever been released on LP. Pre-orders are on-going here.

Finally had a moment to finish this one.

Really enjoyed the backstory to some of the songs of my youth. Learned a lot I didn’t know, some I did. Fast read. Would recommend for any fan of the band.

Interview: Debt Neglector

Debt Neglector

Recently I was able to connect with Florida punk band, Debt Neglector, about their newly announced LP called Kinda Rips that will be released everywhere music is sold on April 4th via Smartpunk Records. In this interview with bassist/vocalist/ band founder Alex Goldfarb, I asked him about the themes present on Kinda Rips, the band’s music upbringing, and why they feel their music should connect with those upset with the political status quo. You can pre-save Kinda Rips here.

Big Tech Wants You Trapped

Linked List

Joan Westenberg:

It’s about whether we build systems that distribute power or concentrate it. Big Tech’s dominance wasn’t inevitable, and it’s not unbreakable. But it’s reinforced by the choices we make every damn day. Because over and over again, we choose easy. We choose platforms with less friction. We pursue mass audiences in the hope that we’ll be granted enough attention to become one of the Chosen Few, the influencers, the wealthy.

Each time we post exclusively to Instagram, we strengthen their position. Each time we accept X’s limits on expression, we legitimize their authority. Each time we pursue engagement solely within their systems, we validate their fuckery.

This isn’t nostalgia.

It’s pragmatism.

Agreed. This whole piece is good.

Early mornings, made by warnings
What's the point of the alarm that I'm ignoring?
It's even raining, I'm not complaining
But waking up is hard to do
So, turn my head, it's back to bed with no delay
Can't be bothered by the phone ten times today
Why get up? My morning doesn't even start 'til two
Forget reality, waking up is hard to do

Review: Fiona McQuarrie – Fountains Of Wayne

Fountains of Wayne - Book

There’s a lot to love about the band Fountains of Wayne. From their humble beginnings that grew out of admiration for solidified rock bands like R.E.M. and The Cars, the band’s primary songwriters, Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood, met at Williams College in Northern Massachusetts and would begin to craft not only the early stages of Fountains of Wayne, but a lifetime friendship. Fountains of Wayne is loving tribute to the beloved band that while only having one true “hit” in “Stacy’s Mom,” there was so much more to them and their music. Author Fiona McQuarrie cuts right to the core of what this band so special, talented, and does a fantastic job of researching all that went into the band’s early days, all the way to their eventual breakup. McQuarrie’s writing style is warm, and you can easily tell she is a fan of the band’s work through her endearing biography of Fountains of Wayne.

Yellowcard Talk Upcoming Plans

Yellowcard

Ryan Key of Yellowcard talked with Wall of Sound about the band’s upcoming plans. Quite a few “eyes emoji” bits in this one:

This is a real turning point though, once we wrap up in Australia, that’s the end of riding the nostalgia wave. After that we have to stand on our own two feet making new music and doing tours that don’t lean on people wanting to celebrate this time capsule moment from 20 years ago. There’s so much at stake after this! We’re in a very secretive stage of making new music right now but what I can tell you is we’re very close [to] something happening, and there will be stuff when we get to Australia. But when the news does come out, it is so much more than just an album.

When I say more than an album, I just mean that the news around it; how it was made, who we made it with, it’s surreal. I’m pinching myself every day, since April of last year when we started working on it. We’ve really poured ourselves into this thing.
