Interview: Dr. Elvis Francois

Dr. Elvis Francois

Recently I was able to connect with the “Singing Surgeon,” Dr. Elvis Francois, to discuss his new holiday-themed single called “Sound of Christmas.” With joyful melodies and festive lyrics and heartwarming moments under the mistletoe, the song captures the magical sounds of Christmas—from caroling voices to the laughter of family. The feel-good anthem arrives just in time for the holidays. I asked Dr. Elvis Francois about the inspiration behind the holiday single, plus what he likes best about this time of year. This artist will also have a new EP, called Alignment, releasing soon as well.

What inspired you to write and record “Sound of Christmas”?

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday growing up. What I’ve always found amazing is that out of all of the holidays, Christmas seems to have its own unique sounds that you only really hear once a year. Last year my brother and my producer Tomy Gé and I all had a cabin trip with our families around the holidays and I was inspired by all of the sounds of Christmas. One morning I woke up to the kids laughing, the bells ringing, and that’s what inspired me to write a song that shared the amazing unique  sounds of Christmas.

This is your debut original Christmas song. How did you approach creating a track that captures the magic of the holiday season?

One of my childhood dreams was to one day work on an original Christmas song that captured what the holidays really mean and its rooted in the happiness of family. The approach we took with this song was to really capture all of the unique sounds that make Christmas so special. For me the sounds of momma laughing, kids running up and down the stairs, the sound of children singing and the fireside crackling were all of the special reminders of how special Christmas and the holidays really are. So the goal of this song was to really capture that and to hopefully give listeners another timeliness song to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

The song celebrates love, joy, and holiday traditions. Are there any personal holiday memories that influenced the lyrics or the feel of the track?

I grew up in the projects of Miami and my father raised my brother and I in a single parent home. My dad was always working 2-3 odd jobs to support us and the family back in Haiti. I would always remember every Christmas even if he only had a few dollars to spare he would go out of his way to make my brother and I as happy as we could be during Christmas. So plenty of the Sounds of Christmas and lyrics of the song are influenced by the reminders of the sacrifices our parents make to make the holidays so special for their children and families. And now I can’t wait to share the Sounds of Christmas with the world!
