Recently I was able to connect with singer-songwriter Izzy Mahoubi to discuss her new single, called “Good.” In this interview, we chatted about the direction of her new music, her music upbringing, and how she is tailoring her setlist for her current tour. If you’re enjoying the interview, please consider streaming “Good” here.
Thanks for your time today, Izzy! I love the direction you took on your new single, called “Good.” Is this song an indication of where you’d like to take your music?
Yes and no! With every song I start I am not sure where it will end up genre wise but I usually tend to gravitate towards Americana and folk!
What was your music upbringing like at a young age?
I started taking lessons for voice at eleven and then started guitar, writing songs, playing in every bar/restaurant that would let me, and just kept going from there.
Who are some other songwriters you admire or look up to?
I admire the greats like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Stevie Nicks, and Janis Joplin and then current folks like Madison Cunningham, Brandi Carlisle, and Fiona Apple.
I saw you had a few tour dates coming up this Fall. How will you approach creating your setlist for these shows?
With sets I usually like to include songs that I enjoy playing and are usually more upbeat and then I include one or two songs that are very stripped back and lyric driven and usually if I am playing a full band set, I may play that one solo.
What can fans of your music expect from you for the rest of this year and beyond?
You can never plan the timeline you want in the music industry, but, I’ll definitely be releasing a rock-ish song before the end of the year. I’ll also be sharing a lot of music and poems on social media and playing around Phoenix and Nashville!
