Wallette – “Listen To The Music” (Song Premiere)

Wallette

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone a cool cover of a Judy Carter classic, by an artist known as Wallette, for “Listen to the Music.” On this re-worked version of the classic 1983 single, Wallette quickly showcases why she’s one of the brightest young stars in today’s music scene. Produced by veteran hitmaker Damien Quintard, Wallette shared her experiences of working with him by stating, “Working with Damien and his whole team was nothing short of magical. He’s so in tune with every inch of the space it made collaborating effortless and so much fun. It was a truly heartwarming and inspiring journey. I’m so grateful for the amazing team and the freedom the studio gave us to experiment and create without limits. Safe to say we all had a really good time! Everything about the experience reflected what Rabanne is all about. Art, freedom, and staying true to who you are. It’s changed my life and I’ve never been more ready for what’s to come next.” If you’re enjoying the new single, please consider supporting Wallette here.

What were some of the new sonic decisions you decided to take with the rework?

We had a blast experimenting with different instruments. We brought in some saxophone, and even tossed in an organ at one point. It was really about having fun and letting the sounds I love shape the track. In the end, I wanted it to feel like a big dancing hug, keeping the heart of Judy Carter’s original but adding my own vibe and soul into it. It was really about staying true to myself while having a lot of fun with the process.

How was your experience recording at Miraval with Damien Quintard?

Honestly, recording at Miraval with Damien felt like stepping into a dream. It was pure magic, and still doesn’t feel real, in the best way. The space has this incredible energy that makes you feel completely free and open to push your own limits. Between the genius and beauty Damien has poured into Miraval, and his work with SoundX, opening up the world of sound for the deaf community, it’s impossible not to be inspired by him. Damien wears his heart on his sleeve, and that energy sets the tone for everyone around him. He’s created a space where you just go for it. I left that experience feeling incredibly inspired, and grateful, and I’m still carrying that energy with me. It reminded me why I love what I do, and made me even more excited for everything that’s coming next.

You really tapped into the energy and groove of the original track and made it your own. How do you find yourself paying tribute while making something new?

The groove of the original is so timeless and contagious, and I definitely wanted to keep that spirit alive. At the same time, it was really important to weave in my own personality and background. So we kept that classic, nostalgic rhythm for the most part, but we also let the track take a few twists. It kind of catches you off guard at the start, then brings you right back to the dance floor, or wherever your happy place is. Damien and I really wanted that mix of honoring the original while making it feel fresh and true to who I am. So it’s a little unexpected, a little nostalgic, and has hopefully put a big smile on your face when you listen to it!
