Apple Music Displays New Notifications From Favorite Artists in Your Library
Mitchel Broussard, writing at MacRumors:
Apple today is rolling out a new feature to Apple Music users, prominently displaying new albums, EPs, and videos from their favorite artists at the top of the Library tab in iOS.
The new feature first appears as a splash page in Apple Music on iOS, telling users that they can “see new music from artists you like.” This will let you get updates about new releases from artists you listen to, with notifications appearing above your library of albums and playlists.
I haven’t seen this yet, but I am still loving MusicHarbor for keeping track of this stuff.

Apple Music Launches New Get Up! Mix
Apple Music has launched a “Get Up!” playlist.
[I]t’s introducing a new algorithmic playlist called the Get Up! Mix that the company says is full of “happy-making, smile-finding, sing-alonging music.” With the help of human editors, it will update the playlist each week with new songs. Think: Discovery Weekly, but with a focus on playing tunes that will encourage good vibes — though there’s the promise of discovering new music as well.
Mine looks pretty good. Yellowcard, Something Corporate, and Less Than Jake, all definitely get my spirits up. Ending on Pennywise’s “Peaceful Day” sure is a choice though.

Amazon Stops Accepting Vinyl and CD Shipments
Chris Willman, writing at Variety:
Amazon has announced that its warehouses has “temporarily disabled shipment creation” for discretionary items through at least April 5. That doesn’t have to do with the outflow of product from Amazon, but inflow. Amazon is declaring an immediate emphasis on the kind of household and medical supplies that have been quick to sell out, and which customers are having a hard time finding in person. Their message to record labels and distributors: Please stop sending us anything, until further notice.

What Are the Rules of Social Distancing?
Leslie Goldman, writing at Vox:
The closures are a way to enforce social distancing, a crucially important public health intervention that can help stop coronavirus transmission by avoiding crowds and large gatherings such as weddings, concerts, conferences, sporting events, and mass transit. Best practice requires maintaining at least a six-foot distance between yourself and others.
You may have already come into contact with an infected person — the woman who rode the bike before you at SoulCycle, the kindly fellow who coughed while standing next to you in line at Costco, or someone who touched your mail as it made its way to your mailbox. (At least one study estimates that about 25 percent of transmissions of coronavirus may have occurred in pre-symptomatic stages — meaning it may be spread by people who don’t yet know they have the virus.)
Things are really weird right now. Waking up to the various news headlines on my phone feels impossibly surreal. We’re still trying to figure out everything and what our lives are going to look like going forward. Hannah’s currently in our kitchen doing violin lessons over Skype and I’ve got beach sounds going through my headphones to block out the world and get some work done. I thought this article did a good job walking through how and what our responsibilities and lives should look like going forward in the short to medium term.
Stay safe out there, and wash your damn hands.
Lil Uzi Vert Tops the Charts
Lil Uzi Vert has the number one album in the country this week:
The set was released on March 6 via Generation Now/Atlantic, and starts with 288,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It’s the rapper’s first release in nearly two-and-a-half years, since his first leader, Luv Is Rage 2, bowed at No. 1 on the Sept. 17, 2017-dated chart with 135,000 units.
How Outbreaks Like Coronavirus Spread
That is math, not prophecy. The spread can be slowed, public health professionals say, if people practice “social distancing” by avoiding public spaces and generally limiting their movement.
Still, without any measures to slow it down, covid-19 will continue to spread exponentially for months. To understand why, it is instructive to simulate the spread of a fake disease through a population.
