The latest EP from Las Vegas-quintet Amarionette marks the next logical step in their unique pop-rock sound in an album that they have titled Evolution. The record is filled with shiny pop harmonies, pounding drums, and plenty of bright-colored synths to round out their repertoire. Led by the first single, “No Control,” Amarionette are taking full advantage of their turn in the limelight with a self-released record worthy of more exposure in 2019.

The first thing I noticed when listening to the opener (and lead single) is how confident the singer Nick Raya is in his vocal delivery. You get the feeling while listening to him sing that he was born for the stage, and he commands your full attention with his captivating prowess. The band showcases a unique blend of power pop and rock in the same vein as The 1975 and Great Good Fine OK, and still show enough chops to stand on their own merit as well.

One of the things I think casual fans and newcomers to Amarionette will gravitate towards is just how polished their approach to songwriting is. Each note, harmony, guitar riff, or percussion all seems to be in just the right spot and makes for an overall enjoyable listening experience. Having been only introduced to this band a few months ago, I found myself coming back to this record more than I initially expected. There is just something endearing about these five musicians who are putting all of themselves into their art. For example, a song like “Nostalgic Love,” with great guitar licks to open the track, eventually breaks away into pop bliss to form the song around each riff.

Time will tell if Amarionette finds a way to gain more exposure in the crowded pop-rock scene, but if they were to get on the right tour with the right band, we might be hearing their name at the tip of everyone’s tongue sooner rather than later.
