Amarionette
Gemini

On the latest full-length effort from funk rockers, Amarionette, they are able to hone in on their strengths and deliver another solid album entitled Gemini. They last made a worthwhile appearance on 2020’s Sunset On This Generation which was a nice mix of frenetic punk rock paired with slick pop-based hooks. Amarionette continue to explore a similar path on Gemini, while still leaving room for some experimentation. The Las Vegas-based band do their best to keep things interesting on this collection of 12 cohesive songs that are sure to make you believers in their brand of rock.

The album starts off semi-cautiously with “Simple,” before exploding into their more comfortable, yet frenetic pace to their music. The chorus of, “Simple, if we come together / We can make a better life / (We can make a yeah, a better life) / It was easier to tell our stories / Before we had our worries, no no no” is well-constructed even if it may seem a little too familiar for the ground the band covered on their previous effort. “Monster” and “Criminal” keep up with a similar pacing to the music brought forth in the mix, while lead single “Peaches” does a better job of expanding upon some of the earlier ideas found on their 2020 LP, with a more polished pop approach.

Other standout songs like the mid-tempo “Rescue Me” and the funk-bass guitar of the title track showcase a band willing to take more calculated risks in their sound in order to achieve the best artistic results. While some of the songs in the album sequencing sound a bit too similar in their delivery, one could argue that this only adds to the record’s cohesiveness from start to finish. Overall, there’s still plenty of new material to enjoy and unpack from Amarionette on their latest musical endeavor.
