Hayley Talks About Next Paramore Album

Hayley talked a little about the upcoming Paramore album on her podcast:

We started working on new material as a band over the last year and a half – you know, the three of us, Zac, Taylor and I – and I just want to say it, I don’t even feel like it gives away very much…Bloc Party, from day one, was the number one reference because, it was like, there was such an urgency to their sound that was different from the fast punk or the pop punk or the loud wall-of-sound emo bands that were happening in the early 2000s. They had their own thing and it was so unique and so dynamic and it really stuck with us and I’m really really thankful for this band. I’m so thankful that they’re back and playing shows. They’re putting out great songs and it just makes me feel even more excited to get back out into the world and maybe cross paths with a band that has been a huge part of our story since day one.

Paramore’s New Album May Be Finished

Manny Marroquin mentions in a new interview that he just finished mixing the new Paramore new album:

It’s common for records to have multiple producers and just as many mixers. Marroquin views that as a choice that depends in large part on the genre and artist. “We just finished the record for Paramore,” he explains. “That band needs one consistent sound because it’s an album with one producer. But then you get another band or genre and they may have several. If there’s only one producer, nine times out of ten it’ll be the same mixer. So, it depends a lot on who the producer is. In today’s world, we don’t necessarily listen to albums as much as we used to, so it becomes less important to have [only] one mixer.”

David Bendeth Talks Working With Paramore on ‘Riot!’

David Bendeth, who produced Paramore’s Riot!, did a video interview talking about the record and trials with the label:

When I finished Riot I handed it in to the label, and they didn’t think there was a hit. They didn’t hear anything on there. The head of Warner Brothers said, “we are going to get Chad Kroeger of Nickelback to write Hayley a hit.” When I told the band what was happening, they went nuts as you could imagine, because we worked four or five months on that record, and they were teenagers. You can imagine the outburst they had putting everything in their lives into the record.” I got back to the label and said look, no offense, but I’m not doing it, and they flipped.

Paramore Back in the Studio

Paramore are back in the studio and have talked a little with Rolling Stone about their progress:

Along with marking their first album in half a decade, Paramore’s next LP will also be the first Williams, Farro, and York have ever started and finished together as a trio. Noting he came in halfway through the making of After Laughter, Farro says, “It’s really exciting because the three of us have completely different strengths when it comes to creating. It’s making the music and just the whole process of making a Paramore album feel completely new.”

As for the album’s sound, Williams says she and York had been reminiscing on some of their earliest influences well before they began writing the LP. But she’s quick to note that that doesn’t necessarily mean the group is necessarily plotting a “comeback ‘emo’ record.”

“The music we were first excited by wasn’t exactly the kind of music we went on to make,” Williams says. “Our output has always been all over the place and with this project, it’s not that different. We’re still in the thick of it but some things have remained consistent from the start. 1) More emphasis back on the guitar, and 2) Zac should go as Animal as he wants with drum takes.”

Paramore Now Have Songwriting Credit on “Good 4 U”

Sources with knowledge of the situation confirm that Paramore leader Hayley Williams and former guitarist Josh Farro, who co-wrote “Misery Business,” are now credited as writers on “Good 4 U,” alongside Rodrigo and producer-songwriter Daniel Nigro. The listing was changed on the website of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and Williams reacted to the update on her Instagram Story on Tuesday (Aug. 24).

Paramore’s Influence Is All Around Us

Quinn Moreland, writing for Pitchfork:

Now, Paramore’s influence is being felt by a new group of artists navigating the turbulence of youth, when every heartbreak and setback can feel apocalyptic. Beyond Moriondo, the band’s sound and snarl can be heard in the gleeful middle finger that is Olivia Rodrigo’s No. 1 hit “good 4 u,” the Hot Topic thrash of Willow Smith’s “Transparent Soul,” the diaristic bliss of girl in red’s “Serotonin,” and Billie Eilish’s caustic eye-rolls. That these artists were an average of 5-and-a-half years old when Riot! was released only underscores Paramore’s staying power—and Williams’ role as a sage pop-punk den mother.
