Aimee Allen Talks Path to New Album

Aimee Allen talks about the path to the release of The Interrupters’ new (awesome!) album in Nylon:

I’ve been in The Interrupters for 10 years. When we started the band, I finally found myself surrounded by people that understand and love me so much, and in an environment that felt safe enough to really begin to heal. The first three years of the band, I was drinking. It’s only been the last seven years that I’ve been sober and trying to find ways to heal and to “feel normal.” I didn’t find my answers, until the COVID pandemic hit. It gave me time to figure out how to get some relief. I think for a lot of people, that time was used and necessary to reflect. Our new song, “In The Mirror,” is about stopping the running from all the pain, from the numbing, and just taking a look in the mirror and saying, “What are you running from? Let’s find some peace inside. Let’s stop doing this. Let’s be real with ourselves.”

And they’ve released a video for “Raised by Wolves.”

SoundCloud Announces Layoffs

Billboard:

“We will be making reductions to our global team that will impact up to 20% of our company,” Weissman wrote in a memo obtained by Billboard. “Making changes that affect people is incredibly hard. But it is one that is necessary given the challenging economic climate and financial market headwinds.”

“Today’s change positions SoundCloud for the long run and puts us on a path to sustained profitability,” Weissman added. “We have already begun to make prudent financial decisions across the company and that now extends to a reduction to our team.”

“I love Jack’s work, and those Lana [Del Rey] records, in particular, like, some of my favorite stuff. So we were talking about that. We became friends talking about production and what I was doing and what he was wanting to do and what I was wanting to do. And then I kind of just thought, ‘Well, this is like a really nice new energy.’ I don’t… because we are so closed, me and George [Daniel], we’ve always been so closed. “Why don’t you like come down to the studio and see what happens?” And then he did. And, then, ever since, we were just great, great friends.”

Review: Maggie Rogers – Surrender

Her talent is undeniable. Maggie Rogers seemed to be destined for this type of breakthrough success after catching an early break when her song “Alaska” caught the ears of Pharrell Williams in a class he taught at her school in 2016. This would allow the floodgates to open with opportunities of major labels wanting to sign Rogers on the spot. Heard It In A Past Life, Maggie Rogers’ debut, would continue this breakthrough success with marquee support tours with Mumford & Sons, Haim, and Kacey Musgraves before doing an extensive word-wide headlining tour to solidify her status as a name to watch, and she would even get nominated for a Grammy award for Best New Artist along this same timeline. Since the release of her debut album, Rogers decided to go to graduate school at Harvard Divinity School, where she would graduate with a Master of Religion and Public Life degree. This worthy path back to education still allowed Maggie Rogers some time to focus on her music and record what would become the Surrender sessions with producer Kid Harpoon. This set is co-produced by Rogers, and it’s a remarkable achievement in her musical journey. With an album filled with great vibes, soul-wrenching lyrics, unique beats, and the songwriting chops similar to a young Joni Mitchell, Maggie Rogers has created the record she may have only dreamed of making in her youth.
