Today is a great day to share the new single from Deep Thrills called “Climax.” Deep Thrills is the moniker of LA-based artist Matan KG and he channels his love of indie rock with an electro-style that needs to be heard to be believed. The song comes from Deep Thrills’ newly announced EP, How Deep Is Your Thrill?, that will be released everywhere you stream your music on July 11th. If you’re enjoying the video, please consider streaming the new single here.
How does “Climax” reflect the emotional aftermath of Deep Thrills’ near-death experience, and in what ways does the song use sound to convey that psychological intensity?
The song is really about any intense experience…I produced it one day when i wasn’t feeling super inspired, and it made me think about how emotion – can you fake it? Can you write a song about something you’re not feeling? Obviously there’s a sexual interpretation, but it’s about emotional honesty in general.
In “Climax,” how does Deep Thrills use elements of electroclash and hyperpop to challenge traditional song structure and listener expectations?
I like when songs kind of go off the rails… the whole song is based on a single melody that just gets bigger and bigger. There’s one section lyrics but they’re more there to serve the feeling of the song, rather than to fulfill a traditional song structure.
What role does repetition and buildup play in the listener’s emotional journey through “Climax,” and how might this reflect themes of tension, control, or release?
Tension and release is everything, isn’t it? Sex, songs, films…any interesting experience is going to have some sort of climax. In the song, it feels like the track is “under control” until the end, when it gets really chaotic. Any really peak experience is out of our control, if you want to experience it fully…you have to let go to really feel it.
