Frank Viele – “Necessary Evil” (Video Premiere)

Today is a great day to share the latest single and lyric video from Frank Viele called “Necessary Evil.” Viele takes us behind the scenes to describe the meaning behind his new single saying:

’Necessary Evil’ is a song that came from a special place in my own journey and became a story of self doubt through the main character’s eventual embrace of empathy. Human existence brings both monumental joy and crushing heartache…Love becomes real, nature speaks differently, music can bring tears to your eyes, an embrace from the one you cherish can truly make your knees tremble. Honest empathetic connection with other living beings is the greatest thing this planet has to offer but it comes with a lot of sadness and heaviness sometimes. One might say that it’s a heavy heart to carry but a necessary evil

If you’re enjoying the latest single from Frank Viele, please consider pre-ordering his new LP called The Trouble With Desire here. I was also able to catch up with this talented songwriter for a brief interview below.

”Necessary Evil” delves into themes of self-doubt and empathy. Can you elaborate on how your personal experiences influenced this song and its lyrics?

While I tend to let my songs speak for me in matters like this, I can elaborate a little further and say that living with a big empathetic heart can open a door that the wrong kind of people can walk through. After a while, you kinda lock that door to protect yourself and it essentially puts a wall up between the real you and the rest of the world. Once that happens it takes somebody special to unlock that door, as we depicted in the music video. For me, that door was unlocked and not only created a new connection for me with the outside world but also added a different level of depth and connection to my songwriting I think which is where a lot of my latest releases are pulling from.

The animated lyric video for “Necessary Evil” continues the video game theme from “Mountains We Can Climb.” How did you come up with this concept, and what message do you hope to convey through this visual storytelling?

I’m lucky enough to have a fan that does this type of animation and he created a scenario for me where I can afford such a cool video on an indie musician budget! I get to write the script and he makes it come alive. What I’m hoping to do is use these videos to create like a 30 minute story eventually connecting all of the videos together. In regards to the message in this specific video, what I really wanted to convey was that having a big heart and wearing it on your sleeve can feel like a burden, but really it’s a gift and once the right person finds the key to that heart, it opens you up to a whole new world and you’ll never see things the same.

With the launch of Bigger Beast Records, you’re taking a significant step in supporting independent artists. What are some of the challenges you’ve observed in the music industry, and what are your goals for nurturing new artists through this venture?

The biggest challenge in my eyes is “misinformation” inside of a rapidly changing world due to evolving technology. There’s a lot of incredible talent out there and voices that need to be heard that find themselves lost down the wrong path and by the time they realize it, they’re five years in, have lost their shirt financially, and they end up giving up. I’ve been there, I’m just too stubborn to give up! There’s also a world of talent that have been working for years but are now struggling to survive due to the rapid pace of industry change tied to technology. As an indie climbing my own rock n roll mountain, I definitely don’t have all the answers, but I do believe that artistic community is important in figuring them out and so the goal of Bigger Beast Records is to create the community and work together to conquer the “Bigger Beast”.
