Hunter Daily – “Age of Depression” (Video Premiere)

Today I’m excited to bring everyone the latest single and music video from Hunter Daily, called “Age of Depression.” On this heartfelt track from Hunter Daily, she pens her all-too-real struggles with depression and still leaves room for optimism. The song comes from her recently released EP Die In LA, that showcases her incredible transformation as a name to watch in the indie pop realm. I was also able to catch up with Hunter for a brief interview below.

The Die In LA EP covers a lot of heartfelt topics and is inherently quite vulnerable. When writing from a place that’s closer to your heart, did it feel challenging to bare your soul like that, or was it a cathartic process for you?

All I’ve ever known was writing about my personal experiences…it feels so good to get it all out and encapsulate the experience so perfectly in this 3 min piece of art.

Generally speaking, where did your thought process begin in terms of conceptualizing this EP on a sonic level? Do you have any big inspirations?

”Die in LA” was the first song that I knew was going on the EP. It was the first song where I was completely certain that it felt like me and my story. It took a lot of learning and trial and error to get there, but once I had that song, I used that song as my “North Star.” I felt like sonically, I gravitated towards any music that truly made me feel something, and I used that as inspiration.

On your newest single, “Age of Depression,” you work alongside your sister Tyson. Had you always intended for her to feature on this track, or did it just feel right to have her on?

My sister and I were actually in a duo in the beginning of the pandemic, and “Age of Depression” was a song we had planned to release on our joint project. In the end, my sister needed a break from music for her mental health, and took a step back, so this is the only song on this project that has her on it. We wanted to put this song out because it is really special to us and in dedication to that time, and to help give hope to those that need it…the best is yet to come!

For anyone who has yet to dive into this project, what is the most important thing you’d want them to know first?

This is just an introduction to Hunter Daily…it’s just the beginning of sharing who I am! I am not sure what I’d want them to know, but I do know how I want them to feel…nostalgic and hopeful!
