Recently I was able to connect with the ultra-talented singer-songwriter, Stella Rose, to discuss her new single and music video for “Beautiful Twenty-Somethings.” Stella Rose has also released a new EP today called Hollybaby via KRO Records. In this interview, I asked Stella about her experiences in the fashion world, her passion for music, as well as some insight on the artistic direction of her music videos.
2024 has been a transformative year for you, with ventures into the fashion world and recognition in the underground music scene. How have these experiences informed your music or identity as an artist?
I have a lot to be grateful for this past year. Fashion and music both create spaces that emote desire and fantasy. These two worlds allow you to dress up and play pretend while shedding light on truths of one’s self expression.
The videos for ”Drugstore Romeo” and “Beautiful Twenty-Somethings” accompany today’s EP release. Can you share your vision for these visuals and how they connect to the themes of the songs?
These videos both shed light on a portrait of youth. Songs that express falling in and out of love. The entanglement of beauty and chaos.
With Hollybaby out today, what do you hope listeners take away from this collection of songs?
Songwriting is a reflection of my experience of the world. The way that I can find my meaning and place. I hope people can find their own meaning through these songs.
