Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the new music video from LA rock band, Los Frankies, called “Dog City.” The track comes from the band’s hotly anticipated new album, D.E.D. City, that will be released everywhere you stream your music on March 6th. If you’re enjoying the new music video, please consider pre-saving D.E.D. City here.
Your debut single “I’m On Drugs” has already drawn comparisons to the New York Dolls and The Heartbreakers. Who are some personal influences for Los Frankies both sonically and aesthetically?
Johnny Thunders is the coolest looking person to ever sling a guitar. Lou Reeds supreme “I couldn’t give a fuck” attitude with an insult in the chamber ready to fire. A disheveled Patti Smith in black boots, a tie and torn shirt and jeans. that is the look. The sound is more modern but with a throwback vibe. a little “is this it” a dash of “era vulgaris” and a shot of tequila.
Your sound as Los Frankies seems equally important to your look and feel as a band with descriptions like fierce attitude and swagger coming to mind. How important are these elements to the core identity of the band?
i view it like this; the reason you’ll go talk to someone at a bar or wherever (church?) to lay down your epic pickup line in hopes of a bodily fluid exchange is firstly based on physical attraction. That’s what motivates you to make your move. then they have to have some substance and something else going on for the conversation to flow and the goal to be achieved. That’s how it is with a band. You see them or the cover art and think I would like to musically exchange fluids with these fine folks. Then we hope after you listen to the album that we are in your head and heart and bed.
Your second single, “Dog City” is full of clever and biting innuendos like “you wanna play rough” and the track’s defiant chorus. What was the inspiration behind the song and what message were you hoping to convey?
The song is about freedom, sex and haters. We love haters. Without them we would be lost. If people ain’t hating you then you’re doing something wrong. Some of the subjects on the album are a little heavy…like active shooters and death and some are about drugs and sex. People might get a little uptight about that and to them we say, “bitches be trippin’.”
