MYNK – “Boundaries” (Video Premiere)

Today is the perfect day to introduce everyone to a new, London-based band called MYNK. On their debut single, “Boundaries,” the band channel the best parts of brooding indie rock with pop sensibilities into an anthemic package. On this debut single, MYNK shared:

The track is about the boundaries we set in order to function in  different situations/relationships; the crossing of sacrifice and habit meets somewhere in the middle to maintain a connection. It’s about the relatable internal questioning of ‘do I/don’t I?’ and where that  takes you, and how you can lose yourself in it.

If you’re ready to be swallowed whole by this great-sounding single, you’ve come to the right place. I was also able to catch up with the band for a brief chat about their new music below.

What made you choose “Boundaries” as your very first single, and the track that essentially will introduce MYNK to the world? What is its significance?

”Boundaries’”was the first track we wrote as MYNK and therefore it felt like a good introduction to the world – like a shared first experience in a way. We probably won’t move chronologically with future releases, but it just made sense this time.

Sonically, your music has been described as “minimalist pop-noir” — what are some key inspirations for you all regarding the direction MYNK has gone down on a sonic level?

There’s definitely an element of all those things in our music – the minimalism partly due to us being a three piece and the pop-noir element our love of pop music combined with the inability to write anything too happy. We all have different influences and are inspired just as much by visual art as well as sound.

With regard to the future of MYNK, what can audiences expect? And what elements of that future can be seen in “Boundaries”?

People can expect to hear more and be dragged deeper into our world. “Boundaries” really is just the beginning in every sense.
