Fat Mike Clarifies His Detox Program

NOFX

Fat Mike of NOFX has clarified on Instagram that he’s not in rehab but is going through a detox program.

I just got released by the doctor. It wasn’t rehab, it was detox. Had a little problem with the Whiskey and the Roxy’s. Now I’m off everything and boy does my tummy hurt. […] I’m not in rehab! I’m detoxing from painkillers, staying sober and really digging it! Well, not the detox part. It sucks!

Real Estate Part Ways With Matt Mondanile

Real Estate

Real Estate have announced that Matt Mondanile will be leaving the band.

Having previously announced a short run of shows in California and a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater with The National, Real Estate expand on this by adding two further California dates. This limited run of dates is a prelude to the recording of their next album, tentatively slated for early 2017. These upcoming shows will be the first with new member and fellow scion of Ridgewood, NJ, guitarist Julian Lynch. Lynch takes the place vacated by the departing Matt Mondanile, who is focusing on his own Ducktails project, a musical endeavor that predates his involvement in Real Estate. The band will commence recording their follow-up to Atlas this summer.

Modern Baseball Announce Help Hotline

Modern Baseball

Modern Baseball have announced a free help hotline for their upcoming tour in an effort to keep fans save at their shows. If you’re feeling unsafe at a show you can text (201) 731-6626. A video detailing the new hotline can be found below and an interview with Brendan Lukens from the band goes into more detail on MTV:

I feel like enough people were just coming up to us after shows and hitting us up via Twitter in general and just giving us subtle hints or just flat-out telling us that they were having a weird time or an uneasy time at our shows. So after we saw bands like PWR BTTM and Speedy [Ortiz], all these sick bands, do really great things to help their fans out, we thought we could hopefully do something similar.

I love seeing stuff like this.

Review: Saosin – Along The Shadow

Saosin - Along the Shadow

Surely by now you have heard the good word: almost two years ago, Anthony Green rejoined Saosin, the band he fronted back in the early to mid-2000s, for a series of long-awaited headlining dates. It was unknown at the time whether the band would ever reconvene for a proper full-length with Green on vocals. But sure enough, here we are in 2016, and Saosin has just released Along The Shadow, their first full-length in seven years. The titular shadow could well refer to the dark specter of expectation that looms over this comeback album.

The Killers Bassist to Take Break From Touring

The Killers

The Killers have announced that their bassist, Mark Stoermer, will be taking a break from touring with the band for the foreseeable future.

Mark has decided to take a break from The Killers touring—but don’t be surprised if you see him on stage from time to time. Everyone supports Mark’s decision to take a break to pursue other educational goals and releasing a solo album. The four of us continue to work on our fifth studio album together, and we’re all excited about the new songs we’re writing.

Zealyn – “Overwhelmed” (feat. Aaron Marsh) (Song Premiere)

Zealyn

Zealyn worked with producer Aaron Marsh (Copeland) on her upcoming EP, Limbic System, and today I’m excited to debut the track from it that also features Aaron on vocals. The song is called “Overwhelmed” and can be streamed below. Speaking about working on with Aaron on the song and tying their voices together, Zealyn says:

Having Aaron Marsh produce the EP was already incredible enough, but when the idea was brought up to have him featured on a song, I couldn’t believe it. His voice/songwriting is brilliant and so inspiring. It’s an honor to share a song with him! “Overwhelmed” directly sums up how the past six months have felt for me, and I believe everyone can relate to what I’m singing about. It’s about almost breaking under pressure and coming so close to giving up on everything you’ve worked towards.

Spotify Lost Lots of Money but Grew Revenue

Peter Kafka, writing for Re/Code, on how Spotify lost a lot of money last year, but revenue grew:

Filings show that Spotify, based in Sweden and the U.K., generated revenue of $2.12 billion last year, up about 80 percent from the $1.18 billion it brought in the prior year (all prices in the story converted from euros to dollars at the exchange rate from December 31, 2015). Losses, meanwhile, hit $188.7 million — but that number was only up 6.7 percent from the previous year’s total of $176.9 million.

It looks like their paid subscribers hit 28 million.

Twitter Changing Up 140 Character Rules

Twitter

Twitter has announced some changes to how they’re going to be handling tweets, media, and @-replies on the service.

[Y]ou can already do a lot in a Tweet, but we want you to be able to do even more. In the coming months we’ll make changes to simplify Tweets including what counts toward your 140 characters, so for instance, @names in replies and media attachments (like photos, GIFs, videos, and polls) will no longer “use up” valuable characters.
