Chinese Junk – “Shut Up About the USA”

Chinese Junk

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the hook-laden new single from UK punk rock band, Chinese Junk, that has a blistering take on the current political landscape called “Shut Up About The USA.” These punk rockers are coming in hot with some slick guitar-driven garage punk rock with meaning. Whether you’re tossing beers in your basement or screaming down a dirt road at 100 mph, this split (called Talk Trash w/ Gino & The Goons and Chinese Junk) that releases this Friday, will deliver the anxiety ridden chaos your soul craves. The sound of sweat filled shows and sweat soaked rebellion – get it while it’s still dripping on Big Neck Records. Band member Ben Nuthink shared:

I’ve got a few friends that are lucky enough to be able to afford to go to the USA on holiday pretty regularly. I can’t afford to, so it’s probably partly written as a case of sour grapes but also me having a bit of fun with it. I figured I’d write a song referring to all the stereotypes of the USA that I could think of to fill two verses. I mention cops in donut shops which funnily enough, I also mention in a song on our first album. The references are mostly good things. Americans do everything bigger than the rest of the world so it’s pointing that out too. The ‘Shut Up…’ lyric in the chorus is me saying to stop rubbing in that you’ve been there AGAIN and I haven’t for years!

If you’re enjoying the new single, please consider picking up the split record via Big Neck Records, here.

Horizon Point

Fresh off the ink drying on their new recording contract with Manic Kat Records, Horizon Point are back with a great-sounding new single called “Bend The Truth.” The band shared:

We are so excited to sign with Manic Kat Records! Our first EP with MKR is already in the works, and should be out later this year. A big part of Horizon Point’s message is about mental health, and this song has an extra special meaning for us. It’s a story about a relationship between two people who have experienced trauma in their lives. They’re both trying to improve themselves and break the cycle of the past to be better partners. The hook, ‘I’m so scared, but I want to get better’, can be applied to so many moments in life where you’re on the cusp of change but still afraid to take the first step. It’s a song about encouragement and hope for something new.

If you’re enjoying this slick song that has all of the vibes of a great ska/punk band figuring things out in record time, please consider staying in touch with the band here.

Marte Eberson – “Start Over Again” (Song Premiere)

Marte Eberson

Today I’m excited to share with everyone the new single from Norwegian singer-songwriter, Marte Eberson, “Start Over Again.” On this heartfelt track, Eberson blends breathtaking cinematic rock with an indie pop twist. Eberson reflected on the writing process of the new single and shared:

Sometimes I look at pictures from when I was younger—whether from my childhood, teenage years, or just a couple of years ago—and feel a sense of longing. A longing for a time when life felt less complicated, less stressful, and when my friends, my family, and I had more time. That time passed so quickly, and I wish I had realized how much I should have appreciated it. Suddenly, I’m ‘grown up,’ and I don’t know how it happened. The days and years blur together, everything moves faster and faster. It would be so nice to start over, to begin again, to savor that time more, to slow down and take it all in.

West Friends – “You’ll Hate It Here” (Song Premiere)

West Friends

Today I’m so excited to introduce everyone to pop-punk band, West Friends, who are releasing their latest single called “You’ll Hate It Here.” On this track that takes it roots from classic pop-punk bands like Sum 41, New Found Glory and Blink-182, West Friends make a memorable single with plenty of substance behind it. West Friends is the duo of songwriters and friends, Jordan Renshaw and Isaiah Dominguez, and they have a great style for the pop-punk 30/40-somethings crowd. The band shared, “‘You’ll Hate It Here’ is a tongue-in-cheek take on the cities we call home (Seattle and San Francisco), which, let’s face it, are some of the news cycle’s favorite punching bags. For locals, the negativity can get overbearing enough to warrant a snarky, ‘Grab a souvenir on your way out.” West Friends collaborated with Tom Iannello (Transit, Driveways) to make an anthem that says, despite their flaws, we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” If you’re enjoying the early listen, you can pre-save West Friends new single here.

Massive Nightmares – “Back To The Beach” (Song Premiere)

Massive Nightmares

Today I’m so excited to bring everyone the new single from indie punk band, Massive Nightmares, called “Back to the Beach.” Formed in the fall of 2023, indie-punk band Massive Nightmares is composed of members of bands Great Lakes USA, No Trigger, Save Ends, and David New Joy. After a brief stint as three-piece, friend (and being in as many bands as possible, addict) Tom Ciesluk joined on bass, rounding out the four-piece with Myke Doyle on drums, Alex Heinz on lead guitar and Pat Lavalle moving over to rhythm guitar, helping to achieve a riff-heavy mix of hooks and harmonies. Massive Nightmares blends influences from melodic 2000’s punk with 80’s indie and alternative reminiscent of The Lemonheads meets the Bronx. Alex Heinz shared, “‘Back To The Beach’ is the first song I wrote post Great Lakes USA going on a hiatus, after years of chaotic riffing and screaming I wanted to change course in both my songwriting and vocal performance to something that felt more in touch with who I am now. Keeping the structure of the song very simple and focusing heavily on layering melody and harmonies (and with a massive assist from our producer Trevor Reilly) we found ourselves with breezy summer jam ready for radio. Lyrically the song is about how rad it is to go to the beach.” If you’re enjoying the early listen, please consider pre-ordering the band’s self-titled EP that releases on September 6th here.
