Andrew Pitrone – “I Talk To The Wind” (Video Premiere)

Andrew Pitrone

Today I’m excited to share the latest music video from singer/songwriter Andrew Pitrone, called “I Talk To The Wind.” In this great, picturesque single, Pitrone channels the best parts of his well-rounded sound in a crowd-pleasing song. Pitrone shared:

When your words seem to fall on closed ears and nothing you say seems to be heard, your words must be swept up to the wind. ‘I Talk To The Wind’ was written in an instance like that. Whatever the circumstances are, we have all had the feeling of being unheard when outspoken. Sometimes the rain is needed to clear the air and refresh the vision. There’s a great story behind the recording of ‘I Talk To The Wind.

If you’re enjoying his latest single, the full EP has been released via Lolipop Records here.

Win Butler Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Arcade Fire

Win Butler of Arcade Fire has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct:

Numerous people who spoke with Pitchfork in recent months say that Win Butler’s virtuous public reputation is not entirely in line with his offstage behavior. Three women made allegations of sexual interactions with Butler that they came to feel were inappropriate given the gaps in age, power dynamics, and context in which they occurred. All three women were devoted Arcade Fire fans between the ages of 18 and 23 at the start of their interactions with Butler, which took place during overlapping periods from 2016 to 2020, when he was between 36 and 39.

Interview: Mike York of Pianos Become The Teeth

Pianos Become the Teeth

It’s been four years since Pianos Become The Teeth have released any new music. But after scrapping one record and reuniting with producer Kevin Bernsten, the Baltimore quintet is back with their most challenging and immersive record yet, Drift. A 37-minute journey through the night, Drift exhibits the most thrilling musical work from the band yet, ranging from pulsating tracks like “The Tricks” and “Genevieve” to murkier, groovier numbers like “Skiv” and “Mouth.” I chatted with guitarist Mike York about the inspiration and creation of Drift, the unique sonic dynamics of the record, and more.

Review: Kulick – “Goner”

The latest single from talented singer-songwriter, Kulick, called “Goner” reminds me a bit of the great, anthemic rock from the early 00’s, and packs plenty of punch in its delivery. The song features some guest vocals from Sleeping With Sirens vocalist Kellin Quinn, and he takes the reins of the second verse to paint the story being brought forth in the single. Kulick is coming off the success of his Everyone I Know Will Die sophomore record and he continues to explore the depths of his improved songwriting on tracks like this. The brilliant and vibrant chorus features vocal harmonies between the two vocalists and makes for a full-sounding vocal attack.

Joshua Lewis – “Heartbreaker” (Song Premiere)

Joshua Lewis

Today is a great day to share the latest single from singer-songwriter Joshua Lewis, called “Heartbreaker.” With soaring vocal harmonies that fit somewhere in between the pop bliss of George Harrison and John Mayer, Joshua Lewis is well on his way to superstardom with great songs like this. “It was all about discipline and motivation to make the best possible thing I was capable of, striving for perfection and doing what I love,” Lewis explains. With his heart firmly planted in the right place, Lewis transcends the boundaries of his music ability in this great-sounding single.

Capitol Drops ‘Virtual Rapper’ FN Meka After Backlash

Capitol Records

The New York Times:

Capitol Music Group, the company that houses major record labels including Capitol and Blue Note, said on Tuesday that it was severing ties with its latest controversial artist: FN Meka, a virtual “robot rapper” powered partly by artificial intelligence, who boasts more than 10 million followers on TikTok.

The company had previously teased the project — the first augmented reality artist to sign to a major label, it said — as “just a preview of what’s to come.” Yet after growing backlash to what skeptical observers said amounted to digital blackface — including content that seemed to trivialize incarceration and police brutality — Capitol said it had “severed ties with the FN Meka project, effective immediately.”

Butch Walker Talks Green Day, Taylor Swift, and More

Butch Walker

Butch Walker talked with COS in a new wide ranging interview:

Keep in mind, as a producer, this is the ugly side, where longtime fans of a band hear that they want to “broaden their horizons” and do something different, and the first thing they do is shoot the producer. They hate the producer because the formula for their Coca-Cola got changed and they are very mad because of a band wanting to do something different.

To Green Day’s credit, this vision was Billie’s. This was his vision. It wasn’t like I came in and said “let’s change it all up, let’s make a ’70s glam throwback record.” But at the same time, this was the kind of shit that he was into at the time, and it’s my wheelhouse. I love making records like that and those are huge influences for me too, I grew up on glam and power pop and metal and rock. So we had a great time making it and it was absolutely a collaborative effort. We spent a lot of time sending files back and forth — COVID was looming but it hadn’t hit yet. They have a very over-qualified massive studio in Oakland and of course, I have my sandbox, and I was like, “Hey, I work best in my sandbox,” and Billie would be like, “Okay, cool, I usually work best in mine.” So I was like, “Great, let’s send stuff back and forth and then we’ll get into the studio.”
