beaming – “Stuck (here)” Video Premiere

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the latest video from the LA-based indie-pop band duo, beaming, called “Stuck (here).” The track comes from the band’s recently announced debut LP, Horseshoe, that will be released everywhere on April 17th via Rose Garden. After a busy year opening for Vundabar, Runnner, Goon, and more, beaming has found their footing both on the road and in the studio. The result is a band that knows exactly who they are and an album that cuts straight to the heart of what makes pop music so disarming. If you’re enjoying the music video, please consider pre-ordering Horseshoe here.

What’s the inspiration behind “Stuck (here)”?

”Stuck” is about the weight of dealing with unhealthy relationships and how hard it is to get out of your own way. Times where you have to take stock of your life and try to move forward (powering through the pain if you will.) Musically this song went in a more folky natural sounding direction, with some heavy guitars and banjos keeping the energy going.

Horseshoe is a masterclass on how to write an indie-pop record. What’s your approach for writing contagiously catchy songs?

Damn, thank you!!! We try to go just the right amount of crazy working on it. Not overthinking & following what feels right. We try and write as quickly as we can and following our gut. Allowing stuff you make to be bad and either fix it or let it go. Just creating as much as possible without being too precious. I think we wrote about 15 or 20 song ideas, then widdled those down to our 10 favorite songs to produce out.

How does beaming compare to past musical projects of yours? This seems like a new chapter for you both.

We both have different skill-sets and pallets we bring to the table, & we’re always finding new ways to be excited about music and writing songs. We’ve both been involved in a lot of different types of projects, but beaming started pretty naturally by us writing songs together with no real agenda. Then the more we hung out writing and recording it became clear we should make it a real band. I think this equation is pretty unique in the ways we work. We usually write a song pretty quickly(chords/lyrics first), then work out the instrumentation and arrangement together. Braden plays the majority of the instruments and then Derek works on the production and mixing until it’s all done. So it’s pretty self contained as of now. We try to not to go crazy in the process…but always do.
