Wendy Bevan – “Innocence” (Video Premiere)

Wendy Bevan

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the latest single and cinematic music video from Wendy Bevan called “Innocence.” On this vibrant new track, Bevan weaves in the narrative of capturing the tension between risk and intimacy. Bevan shared:

I’ve always been fascinated by the beauty and risk that coexist with human connection. ‘Innocence’ is about the longing to lose yourself in another person while still searching to understand who you are. It explores that dangerous space between vulnerability, desire, and surrender, between seduction and uncertainty. Being drawn towards something luminous, even when you know it may hurt you. I wanted the song to feel suspended between dream and memory, but with a strong hypnotic vocal that draws you in to the world of a femme fatale you may recognize from a past life. Innocence is like a faded film noir, unfolding at midnight into a dark blue velvet sky, suspended between glamour, danger, and longing.

The song comes from Bevan’s newly announced solo LP, Alone With The Unknown, that will be released on September 18th, 2026.

”Innocence” explores the delicate balance between desire, vulnerability, and danger. How did your own experiences or observations shape that emotional landscape, and what did writing the song reveal to you about human connection?

I wanted the song to capture a sense of longing. The melody I wrote, combined with the powerful vocal performance, creates a feeling of urgency, while the backdrop of sparkling synth chords and twangy guitar gives it a dreamy, almost weightless atmosphere. Although the vocal delivery and the instrumental track are quite different in character, one more immediate that cuts through straight to the heart and emotionally intense, the other more ethereal; they complement each other. That contrast became an important part of the song’s emotional landscape, allowing vulnerability and desire to exist within a dreamlike space. Writing “Innocence” reminded me that human connection often lives in those tensions: between strength and fragility, urgency and restraint, reality and fantasy.

The song and video are steeped in the aesthetics of film noir, Hitchcock, and classic European cinema. How did those cinematic influences shape not only the visuals but also the way you approached the song’s melodies, lyrics, and atmosphere?

When I write lyrics, melodies, or songs, I often imagine a character and the world they inhabit. Rather than writing from a purely personal perspective for Innocence, I wanted to tell the story through their eyes. I wanted to create a character I would genuinely enjoy embodying on stage, a femme fatale based on all those old Hollywood movies, someone mysterious, strong but vulnerable, and magnetic. Those films create tension through what is left unsaid, where a glance can reveal more than a page of dialogue and desire is often intertwined with danger. I wanted the music to reflect that same language. The melodies have a yearning, almost cinematic quality, while the lyrics leave space for interpretation, inviting the listener to step into the story rather than observe it. Atmosphere was just as important as the words. I wanted the song to feel like a forgotten scene from an old film, beautiful, melancholic, strangely nostalgic and suspended somewhere between dream and reality. That sense of mystery carried through into the visuals, making the music and the film feel like two parts of the same narrative, each illuminating the other.

You’ve reunited with Nick Rhodes after your Astronomia collaboration, this time for your solo album. What did Nick bring to “Innocence” that helped elevate your vision, and how did this collaboration differ from your previous work together?

When Nick and I collaborated on Astronomia, we worked as equal creative partners, releasing four albums together under both of our names with a shared vision for the project. It was a very collaborative process, where we were building a musical world together building a new foundation. “Innocence” marks the beginning of my new studio album, Alone With The Unknown, and our dynamic has naturally evolved. Nick stepped into the role of producer, allowing me to remain fully focused on expressing my vision as an artist. He brought his incredible experience as a producer and his impeccable instinct for atmosphere, he immediately understood the emotional world I wanted to create and knew how to translate that into a distinctive sonic identity. As a producer Nick has an extraordinary ability to hear beyond what’s already there, and Alone With The Unknown is an album, that is a pure example of that.
