Dayaway – “Beach 90th” (Video Premiere)

Today I’m excited to share the latest single from dream-pop artist named Dayaway, and the track is called “Beach 90th.” With a style that strays somewhere between the dreamy pop of Tennis and the heartfelt synth rock of Beach House, Dayaway is on the cusp for superstardom. Their debut single, called “Cool Water,” has already racked up over one million streams on Spotify, and earned key placements on several noteworthy playlists. On the latest single, Dayaway shared, “It’s a bit of a vulnerable song about regret and second chances. I like to think that there’s always hope for redemption. We shot the video out at Rockaway Beach, at several locations the song is about. ‘Beach 90th’ has a psychedelic sonic quality, so we wanted to mirror that in the visual choices.”

If you’re enjoying the direction this artist took on this song, you can purchase the track soon on their Bandcamp page. Also, as a bonus treat, I caught up with the artist for a brief chat about their musical journey.

What is the inspiration behind “beach90th,” and what do you want your fans to take away from this single? What does it mean to you personally?

I wrote “beach 90th” at a time when I wasn’t sure if I was going to stay in NYC. I was feeling sad and nostalgic, especially for summers on the beach. It’s a bittersweet song about a place I love. It’s a hopeful request.

Can you share a bit about your songwriting process, and what do you think makes a good song?

A good song forces you to feel. It connects with some deeper part of you and pulls at a true emotion. That’s what I’m always after when I write songs. Usually I’m by myself with my notebook writing in the air or with a guitar. Then I’ll take the song to my bandmate Graham to produce it out together.

Seems like your recent singles have been blowing on HypeM and Syncs! What do you attribute this recent success to?

Wish I could say it’s just because we make straight bangers but really it’s about having a great team and a lot of luck. We’re very grateful for the people around us who support what we do.

Tell me about the “beach90th” video, who directed it? Where and when was it shot?

Graham and I directed it together, like all our videos. We filmed it in early May at Jacob Riis Beach and Rockaway Beach on a surprisingly cold day. Our vision was to capture the dreamlike psychedelic nostalgia of this song.
