Léolo – “Feel The World” (Video Premiere)

Today I’m so excited to share with everyone the latest music video from Montreal-based pop artist, Léolo. On this song that is filled with such raw emotion, “Feel The World” embraces the springtime with an optimistic outlook. When speaking on the single, Léolo shared, “The idea for this song came to me while I was taking a walk on the beach of a small island in the St. Lawrence River. It was the first time I had gotten out of the city since the beginning of the pandemic, so the need to sing about opening oneself up to the world and the urge to celebrate was quite legitimate at that point! If you’re enjoying the latest track, please consider streaming this artist’s music here. I was also able to catch up with the talented pop star below.

Nature is a pretty central theme in both the song and music video for “Feel The World.” What role did nature play in the creation of Mainland as a whole?

I began working on this album during the first months of lockdown in 2020. It was a weird moment where nature almost became like a fictional place to me. Since I couldn’t access it physically, I had to find a way to reach it spiritually, and that way was through songwriting. The title for the album actually comes from this mental image I often went back to of a pilgrim sailing away from his remote island and heading towards the mainland – to a place near the ocean coast where all the other travelers would meet at sunset to celebrate, share stories, and gaze up at the open sky together. Nature thus became a great source of inspiration for me during the creation of the album, partly because of the contrast of its absence in my life.

Did you know when writing “Feel The World” what you wanted the music video to look like? What did the process of making the music video look like?

The idea for the music video actually came to me while we were in studio recording the synths. My co-producer, Austin Tufts, was trying to fix a technical issue, and it just occurred to me that long-boarding to the chorus at sunset would make an amazing video shot. The whole concept then unraveled from that vision. So I taught myself how to skate over the summer and then drove to northern Québec with my friend Matthew Moir to capture some of the images I had in mind. It was all very DIY, so I’m very happy with how cinematic and magical it turned out!

When fans hear “Feel The World,” what you hope their reaction is?

This song serves as a beacon of hope for anyone who feels like the world they live in has become too tight or suffocating. It’s a reminder that there is always more to life than what we can see with our eyes, and that we should avoid limiting ourselves to what we think we know about it. I hope it will inspire people to step outside and feel connected to the sun, the air, and themselves.
