Hayley Williams Gives Health Update

Paramore

Hayley Williams of Paramore gave a health update on the band’s Discord and mentioned the band is back in the studio.

Zac and Taylor and I also just want to get back to making things. We’ve been craving that for a while now. Not only the creative process but the layer(s) of insulation that can come with the creative process. For me, when we get into this mode it always feels nice to disappear in a way.

Sponsor: Listen to MxPx’s New Album & Watch the New Video

MxPx

MxPx released a new album on Friday. As you can probably see, thanks to the pretty purple header on the website, the band is sponsoring the website all month. This is a pretty awesome collaboration given the website’s long history with the band.

So, if you haven’t checked out the band’s new album yet … what are you waiting for? The end of summer is here and some good old fashioned uplifting pop-punk jams are just what the season calls for.

And following a weekend of livestreams, the band has released a new video for “Cautiously Optimistic.”

Review: Ratboys – The Window

On the fifth studio album by the charming indie-rock band, Ratboys, called The Window, the band expand up on the ideas that they tinkered with on the preceding record, Happy Birthday, Ratboy, with a matured sound. The band chose to work with Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, Snarls) on The Window and it would mark the first time they would record directly onto tape. Ratboys had first met Walla on a tour stop in Montreal, and he agreed to produce the album in 2021, while they sent voice memos of early demos of the songs that would end up on this record. Through the advice that Walla gave the band, Ratboys would record these songs in Walla’s Seattle studio that really jump off the speakers with veteran ease. The stylistic choices on The Window range from straight-forward indie rock, punk, grunge, to a more alt-country sound that fit well within the vocal range and capabilities of lead vocalist/guitarist Julia Steiner. The band appears to be gaining confidence at just the right moment in their trajectory, which makes it a fun time to be a fan of Ratboys.

John Mayer Details New Guitar

John Mayer

John Mayer shared some details about his new Martin guitar.

When @martinguitar and I first developed the OM28-JM back in 2003, I could never have imagined the relationship would span 20 years, so when the idea for a very special anniversary model was brought up, I jumped at the chance to develop something extraordinary with the Martin Custom Shop. The result: the new Martin OM-45 John Mayer 20th Anniversary edition. The guitar is the pinnacle of what can be executed by hand by the Custom Shop’s world class master builders. Together with Martin, we developed a new wood stain named Platinum Gray Burst. Two things immediately became important to me: first, that we offer the same new color on the standard production model OMJM guitar, so that it wouldn’t be out of reach for anyone who wanted to own the OMJM, and second, that the guitars not be limited by number but by being available for only one year.

The Killers Scrapped New Album Halfway Through

The Killers

Brandon Flowers of The Killers talked with The UK Times:

“This is the crisis I’m in,” he says, sighing. “The Killers are my identity and our songs fill the seats, but I’m more fulfilled making music likePressure Machine. I found a side of myself writing it that was strong. This was the guy I’d been looking for! I’m as proud of Hot Fuss as you can be for something you did when you were 20, but I’m not 20. So I’m thinking about the next phase of my life.”

MxPx Break Down New Album

MxPx

MxPx talked about their new album with Alternative Press:

The songs were chosen based on what fit together. There are some great songs that we didn’t end up putting on the record or recording. But we try to get to having a theme, having something people can parse into themes without actually saying it out loud because then you really make your whole thing about that. And really it’s about whatever people want it to be. The songs will find people in their lives in different places. So I don’t know if we really overthink it to that degree or if I’m just thinking about it now. Like with the artwork, Find a Way Home, all of that. We could tell a deeper story, and I think we will, but just put some images out there. Is he in space, or is he on Earth? Honestly, it could be both. You just don’t know exactly. Sure, it’s in space or a spaceship or something. But maybe he’s going back to Earth, [or] maybe he’s coming from Earth.
