Today I’m so excited to introduce everyone to a vibrant new band called Strange Lot. They’re releasing their new single and music video for “Go Have A Dream” that captures just the right magic in the indie rock realm. Strange Lot is Dominic Mena, Cameron Martin, Levi Murray and Jason Desiderio, and their band chemistry is clicking on all cylinders ahead of their self-titled debut that hits streaming services on August 14th via Greenway Records. If you’re enjoying the video, please consider supporting the band here.
”Go Have A Dream” feels both expansive and intimate, balancing shoegaze textures with driving rhythms. When writing the song, were you consciously trying to capture the new direction of Strange Lot, or did it emerge naturally from the creative process?
It definitely emerged naturally. I was getting my gear ready for a session and, while tuning my guitar, this riff just came out of playing random notes. It felt like there was something there, so I looped it and the lyrics came almost instantly.
After nearly walking away from Strange Lot in 2022 and rebuilding the project from scratch, did the themes or emotions behind “Go Have A Dream” reflect that period of uncertainty and renewal? If so, how?
I think subconsciously it was there. At the time I was pushing myself to try new things and not fall back into old habits. I was also trying to finish ideas in the moment instead of letting them sit. In that sense, the song was part of a renewal process and building new habits.
The song arrives with a visually striking video directed by Stellina Stampouli. How did the collaboration come together, and what aspects of the song did you want the visuals to amplify or reinterpret for listeners?
First and foremost she’s my partner! In general she was drawn to this tune in particular and expressed doing a video for it and I could see her vision. We worked on the idea together and love the idea this is happening in a dream world where images are blurred and ideas are floating.
