Today is a great day to share the new Terry Jones single, featuring Dashius Clay, called “Solo En Verano.” On this rap and dance-infused track, Terry Jones makes the most of his moment on a song about overcoming betrayal. Dashius Clay and Terry Jones partnered up for this song, as well as for a full EP called The Bebop Summer EP, that is now on streaming services. When speaking on the collaboration, Terry Jones shared, “I had been a fan of Dashius for many years so when we worked together on “They Call Me El Guapo.” I had the idea of making a full summer pack EP with him. A triangle of what I feel are international sounds of summer music. Latin Rap, Afrobeats/Afro-Fusion and Dance/House type music. Xyber Beats sent us so much to work with. While I was in the studio a friend FRZY walked in, an Emmy winning Guinness World record holder. He heard what I was working on, he had some ideas for background vocals and arrangements with me. Once it was recorded we sent it to Dashius and he loved it and put down a phenomenal verse as always. I’m excited for people to experience this project as a whole.” I was also able to catch up with Terry Jones for a brief interview below.
How did you come about meeting Dashius Clay and how did the collaboration work for the two of you?
I met Dashius Clay through a comedian who happened to be his best friend. I started listening to his music and became a fan when I was doing comedy for years. When I transitioned over into making serious music, a young producer named Xyber Beats who found me on Spotify sent me a beat. The beat was used for “They Call Me El Guapo,” so I reached out to Dashius to see if he was interested and he agreed. As a long time fan, I was excited like I won the Superbowl and that song sounds exactly like we won the Superbowl.
What does the new single mean to you and what do you want your fans to take away from it?
This song for me, is the song I dreamt of making. The beat is phenomenal by Xyber Beats, Dashius is not just a talented artist but a super talented engineer. We work like a “Big 3” and it shows in this whole project. I feel I was able to pour my heart out a bit to ex’s who I felt took me for granted. Sprinkle that with a ferocious Dashius Clay verse and you have a masterpiece.
What was the inspiration for your new EP? How did all the songs come about?
So, after “They Call Me El Guapo” became successful, Xyber Beats kept feeding me the most beautifully produced tracks I have ever heard. I thought to myself, why not do a whole project with the three of us? Dashius mentioned he wanted to do genre bending music. To me certain song genres sound like summertime. Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff hold the title for best summer song ever, and I wanted to make an EP that gives that same energy. Afrobeats, Latin rap, Latin pop, dance/house music, and hip-hop are the music genres for summer. Each summer we ask ourselves, what’s going to be the perfect summer song?
What’s going to be the best vacation song? What song will be good for cookout’s or cruising with the windows down? Bebop Summer EP answers all of those with a triangle genre bending blend of perfectly crafted lyrics, production and personality. I want fans to feel the same way, and to have a soundtrack for the summer. Whether it’s confidence, love or heartbreak. Have a Bebop Summer.
