Gibson Files For Bankruptcy

Money

Gibson guitars have filed for bankruptcy. NPR reports:

The petition, filed on Tuesday, notes that the company currently has up to $500 million in debt and will focus its operations on its musical instruments business, “unburdened by the challenges experienced by [the company’s] separate, primarily non-U.S., consumer electronics business.” That business includes the brands KRK, Cerwin Vega and Stanton, whose lines include studio monitors, headphones and turntables.

Review: The Voidz – Virtue

The Voidz - Virtue

The Voidz, led by The Strokes’ front-man Julian Casablancas, have gone through a few housekeeping changes since their debut album Tyranny. For starters, they have dropped Casablancas’ name from their moniker, probably for the intention of making it known that they are a true band, rather than just a side project. Additionally, the band has used their second album as an experimental canvas on which to paint with all types of styles. While their debut album came across as abrasive and hard to digest, Virtue brings out the best in this crew and if you can stomach the variety of approaches used on this record, it’s quite a fun and trippy ride.

J. Cole Tops the Charts

J. Cole has the number one album this week:

KOD opened with 397,000 total copies, including 174,000 traditional albums and 215,000 streaming equivalent albums (SEAs). Only Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods sold more debut week traditional copies than KOD this year, but KOD’s first-week streaming totals, the third-best ever since the Billboard 200 began measuring streams, pushed the album to 2018’s best sales week, Billboard reports.

Mark Kozelek Streams New Album

Mark Kozelek

Mark Kozelek is streaming his new album on his website and it comes alongside a new interview with Phoebe Bridgers:

For this record I booked myself into hotel rooms and brought an engineer and a mic and a few guitars and we started recording. A lot of it started with looping guitar parts and layering. Some lyrics were written and recorded during those hotel sessions, inspired by things going on in the moment and some were written later. The main thing for me is to not have anything pre-written and just show up.
