Today I’m so excited to bring everyone the new music video from a band called Uppity, which comes from the mind of G’Ra Asim, the vocalist/bassist of Baby Got Back Talk. The new single, called “Catch 22,” is a rock song with a beating heart attached to it filled with purpose. On top of the new music video, a companion book from Asim called 99 Problems Finding the 1: a love story (sort of), is now up for preorder here. Uppity shared:

Like the book, the songs deal with the slings and arrows of loving while Black. Black folks are often under pressure to code switch, and as I argue in the book, there’s a lot to be gained from defying that pressure. Sometimes a code is a way of making verboten the very things that need to be said most. Code ditching is catharsis, a way of letting it all out.
