Under The Rug – “Lonesome and Mad” ft. Ariel Posen (Video Premiere)

Under The Rug

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the new music video from folk rock/Americana band Under The Rug. The great-sounding new single is called “Lonesome & Mad” and features a guest contribution from Ariel Posen. For those new to the band, they are comprised of guitarist Sean Campbell, vocalist/guitarist Casey Dayan, and drummer Brendan McQueeney. Dayan shared this about the new track:

”Lonesome & Mad” was the first song we wrote for this record, and, unlike the other songs—which we mostly wrote on the road—this one came together in our dilapidated little mobile at a time when we were feeling alienated from the rest of the world. Between everything that was happening politically in this country, to the kinds of effects-heavy movies and television that had become so popular, to the way people seemed to treat each other in a crowded grocery-store aisle, we felt out-of-touch and unmoored. Nothing was wrong, but something was really wrong. That’s why we wanted the video to feel very home-made, and it’s also why we show our little mobile home at the end. Of course, getting to have Ariel on the track brought the whole thing home in this pop-irreverent, rootsy, Americana way. It all just came together so neatly.

The song comes from Under The Rug’s forthcoming LP, Homesick For Another World, that will be released everywhere music is sold on February 17, 2023. If you’re enjoying the direction the band took here, you can pre-order the vinyl here.

Hunter Daily – “Skeleton Key” (Video Premiere)

Hunter Daily

Today I’m excited to bring everyone a look at Hunter Daily and her new single/music video for ”Skeleton Key.” For those unfamiliar with this talented artist, she would fit in well for fans of Maggie Rogers, Lorde, and Mitski. Speaking on her new single and the inspiration behind it, Hunter shared:

’Skeleton Key’ is about a relationship that inevitably has to come to an end because you are no longer a match, like a broken lock and skeleton key. No matter how much you love that person and want to make it work, sometimes the damage is irreparable…sometimes the only thing left to do is to walk away. Originally, my sister and I wrote this song about her relationship ending, but later on, the meaning of the song changed for me…it became more about the falling out my sister and I had after we decided to no longer be in a band together, and at the time, it felt like the death of a part of me.

If you’re ready to discover your next favorite artist, you’ve come to the right place.

Tearing Up – “Said Something” (Video Premiere)

Tearing Up

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the new single from Tearing Up called “Said Something.” On this lyric video, Tearing Up channel the emotional part of the new single in a heartfelt visualization. The band is the solo project of Graham Caldwell, and he shared:

Billy Bragg’s ‘Sexuality,’ Dixie Chicks ‘Wide Open Spaces,’ Andy Shauf’s ‘My Dear Helen,’ Cindy Lauper’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Carey’… Even writing this list makes me misty. At the real root of it, I think I just wanted to write music that could make someone cry. Just something that would make a person feel something, realize something, or remember something they thought they’d forgotten. I hope I’ve done that with this record.

The track comes from Tearing Up’s debut LP, entitled Heavy, that will be released in the early part of 2023.

Seth Swirsky – “Christmas Eve” (Video Premiere)

Seth Swirsky

Today I’m excited to bring everyone a brand new holiday single and video from Seth Swirsky called “Christmas Eve.” Speaking on the material of the track Swirksy shared:

The origin of this song is funny: I met a lovely woman at a Christmas party in New York City awhile back named Eve. We hit it off but she told me she was leaving the next morning to go back to LA, where she lived. I said, ‘I guess I have to wait till next year to see you at this Christmas party again, huh?’ And, for the next 3 years, that is when I saw Eve: on Christmas Eve at that annual party. She was literally my ‘Christmas Eve!

If you’re ready to fall in love with Seth Swirsky and his swooning Christmas-themed single, you’ve come to the right place.

MYNK – “Boundaries” (Video Premiere)

MYNK

Today is the perfect day to introduce everyone to a new, London-based band called MYNK. On their debut single, “Boundaries,” the band channel the best parts of brooding indie rock with pop sensibilities into an anthemic package. On this debut single, MYNK shared:

The track is about the boundaries we set in order to function in  different situations/relationships; the crossing of sacrifice and habit meets somewhere in the middle to maintain a connection. It’s about the relatable internal questioning of ‘do I/don’t I?’ and where that  takes you, and how you can lose yourself in it.

If you’re ready to be swallowed whole by this great-sounding single, you’ve come to the right place. I was also able to catch up with the band for a brief chat about their new music below.

Jordi Up Late – “To Be Your Friend” (Video Premiere)

Jordi Up Late

Today I’m excited to share with everyone the new single and music video from electronic indie-pop artist Jordi Up Late, called “To Be Your Friend.” While Jordi continues to steadily release new singles, her plan is to eventually string some more recordings together for an EP or potentially a debut full-length LP. On this great sounding new single, Jordi Up Late shared:

”TBYF” is about experiencing the dichotomy of resentment and gratitude after falling for the ‘idea’ of someone and facing that your disappointment lies in your own expectations of a person who was incapable of loving you before meeting you. In the end I gave the benefit of the doubt by extending friendship only to feel my hand slapped away and taken for granted. Though I am resentful in the dark melodies of the synth, and at times in the lyrics, I remind myself of my own power in singing directly and unapologetically to this person. I speak plainly that loving one another was impossible considering his lack of confidence and that loving him was only worth it for the lessons learned.”

With a plethora of hooks and impressive songwriting chops, Jordi Up Late has crafted a single worthy of your next perfect playlist. I was also able to catch up with this artist for a brief interview.

Donaher – “For Your Love” (Video Premiere)

Donaher

Today is the perfect time to share the latest single and music video from Donaher called “For Your Love.” The track comes from the band’s latest LP, Gravity and The Stars Above, which was released earlier this year via Jetsam-Flotsam. The song fits somewhere between the swooning best parts of early 00’s emo, paired with the backing in lyrical prowess of Dashboard Confessional. The band is comprised of Tristan Omand (Lead guitar / vocals), Adam Wood (Bass), Nick Lee (Drums), and Nick Lavallee (Lead vocals/guitar) shared this about the latest single:

“For Your Love” lyrically is timelessly lovelorn. Musically the song is a bridge between 90’s pop punk and early 00’s emo power pop. Inspired by a bad case of broken heart while trying to find true love again, the song’s influences are undeniably Chicago pop punk mainstays the Smoking Popes, early Green Day records, and (in the bridge particularly) a bit of Dashboard Confessional. In the video, Donaher is back in the garage and seem hopeful for what’s to come.

If you’ve been searching for your next musical obsession, look no further than Donaher.

Mother Sun – “Memory Banker” (Video Premiere)

Mother Sun

Today is a great day to share the latest single and music video from Mother Sun, called “Memory Banker.” The song is a lo-fi, psychedelic blast of nostalgic rock that re-lives the glory days of 70’s rock n’ roll. Lead vocalist Jared Doherty shared:

This song imagines your brain as a teller at a bank, pulling subconscious strings, filing away new information, tugging at the past and basking in the faint glow of faded nostalgia. Its accompanying video was spontaneously shot on the drive home from the studio we were recording at, Little Red Sounds in Vancouver, at about 2 am. Once I started filming the lens slowly unfocused and all the lights turned into beautiful soft circles swimming around the screen. One memory drifts into another on a late night drive through the back of your mind.

If you’ve ready to take a trip into the unknown, join Mother Sun on their musical quest.

Goalkeeper – “Lost Reality” (Video Premiere)

Goalkeeper

Today I’m thrilled to bring everyone the latest single and music video from Goalkeeper called “Lost Reality.” In this nice-sounding track, Goalkeeper channel the best parts of the pop-punk genre into an emotive song. Marc Juliano (guitarist) had this to say about the new single:

We worked hard to push ‘Lost Reality’ in a way where we give the listener a lot of energy and a deeper look within some of the darker emotions we experience. We were lucky to co-write & feature Nik Bruzzese (Man Overboard) on the track which makes us excited that this is the third & last single. We wanted to push our musical ability to manifest pop-punk energy from raw emotion. ‘Lost Reality’ culminates the frustration paired with the ineptitude to move on.”

Get ready to add this great single to that playlist you’ve been needing to round out with that perfect song.

Marcus Paquin – “Something Beautiful” (Video Premiere)

Marcus Paquin

Today is a great day to share the latest single and music video from Marcus Paquin called “Something Beautiful.” In this beautiful-sounding song that expands upon the themes of friendship and unconditional love, Paquin makes you feel like you belong in his musical odyssey. On the single Paquin shared:

’Something Beautiful’ is a song about friendship and unconditional love. It celebrates an awareness that a myriad of beautiful experiences exist in every moment and that it’s up to each of us to be present in those moments so we can absorb and reflect that energy back onto others. Making the video for ‘Something Beautiful’ with my daughter was one of the most joyful experiences of my life. The original idea for the video was that it would be an animation. It would involve a number of characters that are typically natural enemies in the wild in conflict and then eventually, they would forge deep and unexpected friendships. But that concept fell through so I started considering alternate plans.

If you’ve been looking for that next artist that checks all of the boxes, look no further than the talented Marcus Paquin.

Rodolphe Coster – “The Free House Session” (Video Premiere)

Today is the perfect day to share the latest single and music video from Rodolphe Coster called “The Free House Session.” On this great-sounding track, Rodolphe Coster channels the best parts of anthemic rock in a crowd-pleasing package. Coster shared:

With the band I work with in Brussels, we work more like A free jazz band in the frame of pop songs. I’m inspired by the feelings of human connections, those connections you feel with Art Ensemble Of Chicago, for example. That’s why I wanna keep this danger, the one that I think is so essential nowadays, the danger of LOVE and trust. I must say I love <my> musicians as humans, I think they are an incarnation of beauty. Both the ones that recorded the album and the one of the live session. As Jean Luc Godard said about the actors and actresses he worked with, first he needed to FALL IN love with them. I must say it happened with a certain sincerity so that i can’t even figure out how to describe their essential presence to me. We never stop the flow, we never rehearse but we ‘Wave on, we rave on, with the only thing that stands: the simplicity of a song.

Rodolphe Coster’s new LP, entitled High With the People will be everywhere music is sold on November 25th.

Jude Flannery – “Stars” (Video Premiere)

Jude Flannery

Today is the perfect day to share the latest single and music video from Jude Flannery called “Stars.” On this heartfelt song, Flannery croons over sweeping instrumentation in a song ready for that playlist you’ve been crafting. Flannery shared:

This song considers the moment we decide to continue to love someone, despite being aware of their more apparent faults. Directed by Marc Zajack and filmed by Alexandra Golden Flannery, the video for Stars is a series of moments accentuated by an abstract narrative that reflects upon the ideas of journey, relationship and connection. Intertwined with each other, these moments emphasize the intimate human experiences that keep us coming back to the connections we make with others over time.

I was also able to catch up with Jude Flannery for a brief chat about his upcoming record called Quiet By Your Side, out everywhere music is sold on October 28th.
